However as it is in the hill insects are an inevitable sight (ants, mosquitoes, etc.) esp in open areas, but it's tolerable inside the house. Service was good, as a large group we really enjoyed ourselves gathering in the living room area. However, it's relatively inaccessible (taking taxi from town centre to the holiday home costs around RM15-25, and a lot of taxi drivers do not know the place so I'd...

"We were a group of nature lovers who were using this as a three night stay to get used to the temperature and time change upon arrival in Borneo. Loved the grounds and snorkeling right from the beach. Fantastic nature center staffed by several biologists. The food options were a bit pricey but we were expecting that. The grounds were very birdy and we found two Borean Pit Vipers. The mangrove tour was fantastic. Room is very good quality for the price."

"The Shangti-La is just a step up from other hotels. Yes, it's big and busy but the staff go out of their way to really spoil you. I'm vegan and they bent over backwards to ensure I had a great breakfast, sent soy milk to my room tweaked dishes so I ate well. And the location - oh my. We stayed in a garden room and could walk straight out looking at the sea. Room had a shower and a bath, was well stocked. Water in the fridge every day. Their Spa was great too. I can't think of anything bad about the place. We just didn't want to leave. "
