Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you're well organized. We've made a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Simos vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be a stress-free experience if you bring the right things. Firstly, you'll want a few toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh set of clothes and a good read. Secondly, make room in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, any vital medications and perhaps a proper neck pillow as well. Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Pack all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your checked luggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Pointed or sharp objects, like your treasured pocket knife, and products which are explosive or flammable, such as spray paint, flares and strong acids, are also not allowed.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your main concern when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a wise choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• The result of sustained periods of inactivity, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clotting condition that can affect passengers during long flights. Lower your risks by drinking water, keeping your ankles and legs moving and wearing compression socks or tights.

• Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before you can proceed any further. Have them close by, ready for inspection.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes items like headphones or earphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll all need to go on the X-ray conveyor belt.
• For just a few moments, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your tablet, phone and any other electronic gadgets will need to go through the scanner.
• Any gels or liquids, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
• It's also likely that you'll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on shoes is always a smart idea.
