Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're prepared. We've put together a list of handy travel tips that will help get your Phnom Penh escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Firstly, and most importantly, put in your passport, travel documents, wallet and medications. Next, you'll need some entertainment to help pass the time. A juicy novel and a tablet filled with your favorite shows are some terrific options. If you hope to take a short snooze, a neck pillow and some noise-canceling headphones will also be useful. Finally, make room for a few toiletry items to ensure you arrive looking and feeling fresh.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Make sure you don't have a sharp object hiding in the bottom of your carry-on luggage. Other banned items include flammable or explosive goods, like aerosols and matches, and gels and liquids in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your number one priority when deciding what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a sensible choice, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• Most of us have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and keep your legs and feet moving.

• Have your passport and travel documents at hand. They're the first items you'll be asked to show at security.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your coat, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like coins, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• All your electronic devices, including your phone and tablet, must also be scanned separately.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or hairspray, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• There's a chance you'll be required to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them safely away in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board.
