"This is a great escape from the city and offers many options for enjoying the area or if you have younger children, many play facilities are available. Staff is great as always at any Hoshino facility."

"This ryokan provides excellent service and serves high quality Japanese food. I have stayed with many reputable 5-star hotels in Japan, such as Mandarin Oriental Tokyo, Andaz Tokyo, Suiran the luxury collection hotel in Kyoto, but I have to admit that even under the most fastidious standard, the service provided by Asaba is impeccable.I have a memorable experience during my stay at Asaba. Everything is perfect."

This was one of the best experiences I ’ve had traveling. The onsen was incredibly beautiful, clean, and serene, and the staff were extremely attentive and helpful. The food especially stood out as one of the best meals I’ve had in Japan. I highly, highly recommend this onsen!

Wonderful stay at Ryokan Kikuya. It's picturesque, with the stream running through it. Impeccable service, attentive yet discreet. Situated at the heart of Shuzenji Onsen town, one can go on short or long walks with interesting sites to visit.

There isn’t much to do nearby, so it’s really a place to relax, enjoy the onsen, eat, sleep, read, and unwind. I highly recommend booking the half-board option since there are very few dining choices outside the hotel.
We had a room with a private bath, which was wonderful. However, the bedroom was upstairs, and I didn’t feel very safe using the stairs at night. I wouldn’t recommend this type of room for families with young children or anyone with mobility concerns.

It was such a lovely house. It was so nice to have all the space for everyone in the family, and at the same time the games and kitchen allowed us to have more family time together.

What a gem! We stayed at Ishinoya after our 4 days of non-stop walking and touring Tokyo and before another 3 manic days of touring Kyoto. It was such a needed reprieve! I wish we could have stayed one more night before heading home.
We booked the room with a private tub, but I tried the public bath very early one morning when it was empty. It was just pure bliss!
You do have to reserve dinner/breakfast in advanced. We're lucky there was one spot left for breakfast. I would have wanted to do...
