Room and fittings were a little dated and the amenities limited, particularly the elevators. However, the front desk and restaurant staff in the hotel were extremely polite, friendly and accommodating and the location was ideal for first-time visitors to Shanghai.

I requested for a roll away bed. They provided me with a sofa bed. Woke up with a backache after 1 night sleep. Request for a mattress to put over it. They did but it was a thin piece.

The location is great. Definitely worth waking up early to walk around the hutongs nearby before dawn—highlight of our trip. The building is older and is due for an update, but is very clean and warm. I believe our room was upgraded from a double to a double deluxe room, which was very spacious.
