Spot the stone marker that commemorates the river crossing. It was placed here in 1895, before becoming part of Washington Crossing Historic Park in 1918. Sit by the river and think about the historic moment that took place here. On Christmas Day in 1776, George Washington led the Continental Army across the freezing river on the way to Trenton, New Jersey, where they surprised the troops of German Colonel Johann Rall.

Note that the village was formerly known as Taylorsville, before changing to its current name in order to honor the 18th-century event.
The village is on the bend of the Delaware River that runs along the New Jersey border on the eastern flank of Pennsylvania. It is in Bucks County, a little northwest of the city of Trenton. Arrive at Philadelphia International Airport and drive northeast for 40 miles (60 kilometers) to get here.
