5/5 Excellent
"We are a family of four, with two college-age children, and had a wonderful stay at the Samovar. We stayed in one of the family rooms, which was perfect for us (with two beds in a spacious upstairs loft).
The hotel is perfectly located -- literally across the street from the Dailles gondola (and only about a block from the funicular to the summit). There are a couple of restaurants nearby, including a great Savoyarde spot across the street. There is a regular shuttle bus to the main village of Val d'Isere that leaves from right in front of the hotel as well (and it's only a 20 minute and very scenic walk to the village anyway).
The ski room is convenient (and heated). The breakfast was plentiful and delicious (if fairly standard for a European hotel of this quality), and the dinner at the hotel restaurant was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. The spa was a big plus as well, with a sauna and jacuzzi pool in the basement.
Finally, the staff deserve special mention -- particularly Abdur at the front desk. He was friendly, welcoming, and always helpful, consistently asked how things were going. On our last day, when we asked to store our luggage after checkout for the day while we skiied, he graciously took charge of our seemingly endless number of bags, stored them for the day, and then brought them down to the side entrance so we could easily load them into the car.
All in all, a terrific hotel. We are already looking forward to our next visit!"
