Independent Urumqi hotels

"The hostel is on a helpful, central location. Restaurants, shops on the doorstep. I arrived about 3.30am and no problem. The building seems to be a former higher end hotel and they’ve taken over a floor, so the double rooms are pretty big, well air conditioned, high end bed sheets etc. Didnt see the dorm rooms. The owner is fantastic - she was incredible helpful when i ran into some problems during my stay- even took me to dinner and drove me to the station. A couple of the other staff looked...

"We asked for three beds and was given a very large room with 3 beds. Room was clean and the security guards at the metal detector were so eager to help me on looking for the bus route to the museums and parks I wanted to go. It was the guards that help me not the reception clerk, they did not know anything and did not bother to look for it on the map or do anything at all. "I reserved a double room and when I checked in they told me that I will get a single room because I was a single passenger. I told them that even though I was alone I wanted the double room. They wanted to give me the single room for the price of a double. Finally after getting the double room they told me that because of construction there was no water in the rooms.
