As the capital city of New Jersey State, Trenton has a wealth of impressive architecture and museums. Battle monuments and historic houses provide a window into the city’s rich past, while parks and festivals make it a fun family destination. Get a sense of the military history from the war memorials around the city.

The New Jersey State Museum has its exhibits on natural history, culture and archaeology. Study the works of art and visit the planetarium.

A 3-minute walk from the museum is the New Jersey State House. Join one of the free tours to see inside the state’s most historic building.

Across the street stands the WWII Memorial, which consists of a cupola and statues. Inspect the sculpture of Lady Victory and read the plaques adorning the surrounding walls providing information on events during the time frame of the war and the roles played by locals.

Continue the military theme at the Old Barracks Museum, a house that turned from military quarters to a brothel. Visit the Trenton Battle Monument that commemorates victory in the 18th-century Battle of Trenton.

War meets culture at the Trenton War Memorial Theater, which has musicals and comedy acts, among other events. For a different option, travel to the Washington Crossing Open-Air Theatre in the northwestern suburbs.

Bring your family to the ponds and bridges of Sayen Park Botanical Garden in the Hamilton Township district. Watch local sports at Cadwalader Park or attend a free concert on the Capital Green.

Head out in the evening to one of the many restaurants in the Chambersburg district. The area has a rich Italian-American heritage but today has many varied international bistros.

Trenton is on the border between New Jersey and adjacent Pennsylvania. Served by Trenton Mercer Airport, the municipality is located between the cities of New York and Philadelphia. Travel by train to the Trenton Amtrak Station and get around the city by bus or rail.

In Trenton enjoy the blend of parks, theaters, war monuments and military history.
