"The staff at the hotel are very friendly, and the room is tidy and clean. The hotel has a long history, which adds to its charm. My favorite part is the beautiful view—right by the river, it’s simply stunning! I will stay here again if visit Gero next time."
"Beautiful vista, food was great (strongly recommend doing a dinner reservation AND a breakfast reservation) owner was extremely kind and generous. He spoke better English than I spoke Japanese, which made it extremely easy to meet in the middle. 10/10 experience."
"The room is new renovated by wood. The hotel is less guest so really good for relaxation. Food is tasty and staff is really helpful. Hope can come back again."
"Great option for your Nakasendo trail experience. Beautiful town. Be sure to walk around the temples and find the weeping cherry blossom (I think this was the name)."

"This hotel is the most beautiful hotel we have ever stayed at. The staff were helpful and always very friendly. The breakfast option was extraordinary, a private banquet of traditional Japanese dishes. The hot spring is beautiful, a rock pool flowing with healing water, always available. It is right on the Hida River which brings a soft tranquility. The walk into town is short, 15 or 20 minutes brings you to the center of town, with many dining options, temples and shrines. A truly memorable and relaxing experience."
"There's staff to welcome and orientate us upon arrival. And since it's a large hotel with 3 buildings, the staff briefed us and walked us to the building where our room was. Nice breakfast and we have 3 onsens to choose from! It's also conveniently located within walking distance or a short drive to the main sights at Gero. "
"This facility is a disgrace and should be condemned. Everything about it screams neglect, incompetence, and utter disregard for basic hospitality standards. The building is in an appalling state of disrepair, with strange odors permeating every corner. Public toilets reek of rancid urine, and the multiple dirty elevators required to navigate the labyrinthine layout are an exercise in frustration and disgust. To reach your room, you must endure numerous flights of stairs and poorly lit, shabby hallways that feel like a set from a horror movie.
Adding insult to injury, I feel I was grossly overcharged simply because I booked through a foreign booking agent. I paid over $500 USD for two nights at this crumbling, health-hazardous property, and it feels like nothing short of a rug pull. This is price gouging at its most unethical. Taking advantage of foreign travelers in this way is disgraceful and shows that the management company not only lacks competence but also lacks any semblance of ethical business practices. It’s clear their priority isn’t providing a quality experience—it’s exploiting guests for every penny they can.
Let’s start with the dining. The dinner buffet, to its credit, was decent, offering a variety of options that seemed tailored to domestic and regional tastes. However, the breakfast was a complete letdown. I noticed other diners being served steamed crab, but no one approached me or offered the "
"The staff speak English or Mandarin hence communication was a breeze for me. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. The location of the ryokan is within walking distance to the town and close to the train station. Hotel provides a bus shuttle to the train station. From the train station to the hotel, there is also a complimentary ride. I had a very pleasant stay at the ryokan and highly recommend it. "
