Bijou but adequate to wash and sleep.
The room was small but it contained all I needed. The en-suite was fully equipt. The most striking thing was the excellent quality of the bedding and towels. This is not a place to sit around in but there are bars and restaurants outside and Kings Cross centre is a few yards away.

The location was really good for me - Vibrancy in the evening and quiet mornings. Room was clean and all that was needed for sleeping in. It was also quiet. I would have liked to meet the staff/reception? Im assuming they were in the Cafe? Which was always closed when we were up and about or coming home. Hard to find some local knowledge when not familiar in the city. Great WIFI...

Better than expected. They have a small restaurant open for breakfast and lunch. Very good food. Very friendly staff. Sheets were ironed. If you are carrying heavy luggage consider there are steps for getting to the rooms that are in a second floor.

George, the innkeeper, was friendly and helpful. He carried our luggage up and down the stairs. The breakfast choices included in the room rate were hearty and delicious. The hotel is located in a vibrant area with lots of restaurants. It's just a few blocks from the subway. Our only disappointment was that the shower either ran very hot or very cold and we couldn't find a happy medium.

the price was reasonable. the breakfast (additional cost) was very very good; it was also nice to eat outside (our choice...there is also a cafe inside)). the location is good...we could walk to the botanical gardens, opera house and the metro (subway) although it's a bit confusing initially, due to the shape of the harbour...difficult to get our bearings

My home away from home
I try to stay at Hotel 59 every time I visit Sydney. It is a family run hotel and George, Kathy and their Dad (who makes great French toast) have made me feel like one of the family. Morning breakfast in the cafe is always fun with the opportunity for great conversation. The neighborhood itself is quiet, but a short walk away from the subway and the action of Kings Cross. The rooms are comfortable with good bedding and all the amenities to make for a comfortable stay. It’s the personal touch that makes all the difference for me which is why I keep coming back. I’m already looking forward to my next (as yet unplanned) trip to Sydney!

George was a fantastic host... helpful, funny, and knowledgeable. He took the time to show us the best routes, and he made a suggestion of a spot to visit we had not considered... it turned out to be one of the high points of our trip. Basic room with fridge, good wifi, off hour access, and a great breakfast. The location is also very good as it is close and walkable to Kings Cross Station, bus stops, markets, restaurants, and sights.

Great stay
I stayed here for six nights while visiting Sydney and had a great stay. Location is conveniently located two blocks from the Kings Cross station, yet the hotel is in a quiet and upscale neighborhood. It was a basic and clean accommodation with all the basic amenities that a minimalist traveler needs: tv, mini fridge, air/heat, and private bathroom with clean towels/soap/shampoo. I ate breakfast at their cafe every morning and ordered bacon and eggs. Breakfast was always delicious. George and Kathy and their dad were excellent hosts. George was easy to talk to. Taking the door-to-door shuttle from and to the airport is recommended. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay here again when in Sydney.

Very well organized. Not expensive. Friendly owner. Only complaint: Internet is slow (as it is in the whole Australia, by the way). Overall, it was great.

A nice B&B in the middle of the city
Property was a good budget hotel, situated within 5-10 minutes walk from Kings Cross Station. It's a little hard to find at first, but look for the "59". The property is family-run so everyone is very friendly and welcoming, and they will go one step beyond to help out within reason - a much more personal touch than at larger hotels. It's not sophisticated and the owner sets expectations when you book, so don't go looking for 4 or 5 star hotel type amenities. The breakfast was very good, and certainly puts a nice touch to the stay. The room was adequate - it had AC and was clean. The only area that I wouldn't mind more improvement is the Internet. The speeds were generally slow and a bit inconsistent. Although it was okay for sending messages and surfing the Internet, it was a bit laggy for WhatsApp calls and things like that. I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra for the room if a better service was available. Overall it was a pleasant stay and I would consider staying at this property again in the future.

A home away from home
This was a return visit for me to Hotel 59. What can I say? I really looked forward to seeing George, his sister Kathy and their Dad (who seems to do most of the cooking). It was like coming back to visit friends. This is a family run hotel and is a breath of fresh air compared to the large chains. I always have interesting discussions with George in particular. This is not a deluxe accommodation, but it is comfortable, breakfast is included and the rooms have what you need. The accommodations are very reasonably priced, but the morning conversations and good tidings are priceless. As someone who travels frequently, it is these human touches that make for my most memorable stays.

Loved location and the E mail informing how to get there etc prior to arrival. It is as explained small family run . Owners were helpful , rooms basic but who goes to a city to sit in a room. Clean and everything you needed. Excellent value.

It was a good combination for staying & having the cafe there. Room was cozy, clean & had ample storage area. Plus had a small refrig in the room. AC worked good, wifi was good in main areas, far room I was in away from street did not stay connected a couple of times, but in common areas worked good. People running hotel & cafe were very friendly & helpful with info. For the cost it sufficed for my needs. Note like most private businesses they close down after 2 or 3 pm. There are plenty of things to do in the area. Had normal amenities even though older hotel. Would stay again.

The hotel is in a great location, within reasonable walking distance to the centre and with public transport which stops nearby. There are loads of great places to eat in the immediate area which is full of life and safe. The hotel is as George the owner himself describes, not a chain hotel and is situated in an older building. There is a cafe below which George runs and you get a good breakfast included in the price. The hotel is pretty basic but clean. The wifi is pretty frustrating and whilst we had a roller blind to cover the non functioning venetian blind in our room, our friends did not and so they found it hard to sleep due to lights from the flats next door. All in all, a bit of a mixed bag but the advantages outweighed the disadvantages.

Great find for accommodation in central Sydney
Excellent value for money, great location, very good breakfast included in room rate. It’s good, basic and unpretentious accommodation. Dated decor but a large room for Sydney and quiet at night. There is no lift, for anyone with physical limitations but this wasn’t a problem for me as I didn’t have much luggage.

Convenience and close to train station
Convenience, few minutes walk to King cross station, many restaurants nearby, supermarket just 2 blocks up around the corner, fine wine shop few doors down the road, excellent breakfast and coffee. We enjoyed the stay of one week. Will definitely come back to stay again if we visit Sydney in the near future.

So although this is a no frills hotel it delivers for it's price point. We got an ensuite queen room for $276 for 3 nights in the heart of Kings Cross. With that you should expect a few quirks, but for the price, well worth staying.

Great Hotel!
This was an awesome choice for us. The room was just perfect for 2. George was extremely helpful and friendly. We also had breakfast every day included in our price during our stay. Spiro and Kathy were bery friendly and helpful too. I would recommend this hotel and cafe to anyone.

Great location
We stayed here for the weekend and found the location to be superb. Central to all places in Sydney with the train station close by. George, the host, was very friendly and more than willing to help us with whatever we needed and suggested the best way to visit some sites. The only issue was the shower head was in need of repair to allow it to be free standing. The room was clean and adequate for what we needed. A place to sleep upon returning from days site seeing. Single room isn't really worth the $50 but the owners are very nice and the French toast in the café was delicious!! Fine if you just want a bed to sleep in, in the Kings Cross area.

Nice hotel about 5 minutes walk from King's Cross Train Station. George and Kathy were wonderful hosts. They didn't hesitate to answer any questions or engage in pleasant conversation when you saw them. Next time I'm in Sydney, I'l definitely stay again
