"We stayed at Sugar Bay as part of our honeymoon and found it to be a pleasant resort, but ultimately not the romantic experience we were hoping for.
The highlight of our stay was our lovely room overlooking the beach. The beach itself is beautiful, set in a sheltered cove with calm, crystal-clear water. The gym was also excellent and well equipped, with plenty of availability as it was rarely busy.
That said, the overall atmosphere felt much more family-oriented than honeymoon-focused. The main pool area, including the large swim-up bar, was often busy with families and groups, which created a lively rather than relaxing setting. We also noticed that the pool had a green buildup around the edges, which detracted from its appearance.
On arrival, a short orientation tour of the property would have been helpful, as we were left to discover the facilities on our own. While the staff were polite, service did not feel particularly warm or proactive, as interactions generally only occurred when we approached them first.
Sugar Bay offers a good all-inclusive option in a beautiful beachfront location, but given the price point and the strong competition from other hotels on the island, we feel the resort would benefit from clarifying its target market. With such a broad mix of guests, it may be difficult to consistently meet the differing expectations of honeymooners, families, and other travellers.
Overall, an enjoyable stay in parts, but not the ideal choice for romance."
