"We enjoy country cottage stays and the Southern Cross met all our requirements and needs. It was a delightful base as we explored East Devon over a five day stay,,,"
"First stay here for 2 nights B/B. Lovely hotel in a quiet road just 5 minutes from the sea close to shops. Clean and comfortable staff very friendly and breakfast had plenty of choice. Would recommend. Most likely will be staying here again ourselves. "
"Plus sides: next to the Donkey Sanctuary and the ability to cook for yourself.
Now for the downsides. Where to begin?
*Couldn't get into contact with the owner for check-in, arrival times, code to the key box or anything. No apologies, not even his/her...

Sidmouth is a charming town with independent shops and cafes. It's thriving in the Winter as well as the Summer and has a great beach with a mix of sand and pebbles. There are also lovely paved walks through the Byes.

Book for dinner on a Sunday if you are eating out. Many places crony open Sunday evening. Sidmouth is a pleasant Edwardian type sea side town with no amusement arcades. Very pleasant and great shopping

Im a massive fan of Sidmouth, I have been since a child and I love the big hotels on the Sea Front. I would recommend Sidmouth to anyone, well, maybe not people who are looking for nightclubs and bars.

Love Sidmouth so many quaint shops, good transport. Will visit again but won't book with the Balfour Arms.
"A decent hotel with good, spacious rooms for a family of four. The staff were lovely and the breakfast options were great. My children especially enjoyed being able to make their own waffles with Nutella. We had a great stay."
"I love the concept of sustainability here and it has been implemented extremely well, whilst maintaining high standards. The tea/coffee/hot chocolate area on each floor rather than in rooms gave more variety, better quality and the refillable water bottle in the room to use for the filtered water at the refreshment station was excellent.
The bed was so comfy and the room was excrptionally bright, airy and clean. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming!"
"We really enjoyed our one night stay. We had a twin room overlooking the atrium, which we booked using Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Our room was spacious and clean, and we enjoyed making use of the gym and spa facilities, which were included. "
"Arrived and greeted by the most incredibly kind staff. They really couldnt have given us any more to make us feel welcome. Want to give a huge thanks to Robin on reception. My husband has a neck injury and the staff even offered to get pain medications from the local Pharmacist for us.
The food in 1881 resturant within the grand hotel was delicious and served by Felix. What a kind gentleman he was also. Even making my young boy happy by giving him free mocktails!
Both inside and outsoor pools area great addition to our stay, the breakfast is tasty and always left each morning with full bellies. We will definitely be coming back. We were so sad to leave today. Thank you all for a wonderful stay "
"We had a very comfortable stay at the hotel and were impressed with the facilities and friendly staff. We returned for the 2nd time having also enjoyed our first stay. Love the views of Torbay and the internal architecture and furnishings of the hotel. It was a shame that the outdoor pool was closed but enjoyed the indoor pool / spa facilities."
