San Gimignano City Centre is noteworthy for its historic sites, and you can make a stop at top attractions like Piazza Duomo and San Gimignano Communal Palace.
San Gimignano is particularly enjoyable later in the evening, when many of the day time visitors have left and you can really soak up the atmosphere of the place in relative peace.

Good
San Gimignano is a nice little town, best enjoyed in the evening if you're looking for a quiet experience. We found other small towns in the area more charming.

Small town on the hill. Nice local food, especially wild boar cooked in local ingredients.

Excellent
San Gimignano should be a must do for anyone in the area. Been many times, and love going back.
"Our stay at Poderi Arcangelo in the rolling hills of San Gimignano was nothing short of magical. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, the views were the kind that stop you in your tracks – especially at sunset when the Tuscan hills glow gold. The food was exceptional every day, with authentic local flavours that made each meal a highlight. The staff were warm, welcoming and always tried their best to help, adding to the charm of the place. The location is perfect for exploring nearby treasures such as San Gimignano itself, Certaldo, and Volterra.
One thing to note – a hire car is essential. Public transport is virtually non-existent here; we couldn’t get a bus at all and taxis, while available, were scarce and very expensive – we spent €400 on just three journeys. This isn’t the hotel’s fault, though it would have been helpful to know in advance.
Also, while the property is beautiful, there’s no real indoor bar area for relaxing before or after dinner. There is an outdoor bar, but it only opens on weekends and closes at 18:00, so an early evening drink isn’t always possible.
Despite this, we had seven days of bliss and would return in a heartbeat – next time with a hire car, ready to explore every corner of this stunning part of Tuscany.

"We loved our stay. The hotel had really nice breakfasts included and the pool was fantastic after a hot day walking around the old city. We had a standard room and we were expecting it to be small. It was very small - it was difficult to find space for our cases and the shower was so small that it was hard to use it without banging your elbows. The room did include a nice outdoor balcony which made up for the super small room. The hotel was an easy walk into the old city."
"Really nice, quiet place to stay with an incredible view and convenient to San Gimignano. The staff and service was top notch with very friendly poolside service and at the restaurant.
The room accommodations and beds are very comfortable, but the AC had trouble keeping up with the 90 degree days…especially with a mezzanine sleeping space. Regardless, we had a wonderful time.
