The condition of Room 203 in Ash&9th (San Diego), where I booked Dec 1st to 6th and actually stayed on Dec 1st to 5th, was problematic. Specifically: * The heater did not function properly — it was not warm, made loud noises, and was difficult to turn on. * The drawer slid out by itself unexpectedly, which was frightening. It was then fixed by tightening it shut, making it unusable. These issues made it difficult for me to continue staying in the room, and therefore I had no choice but to check out on the morning of Dec. 5th.

The hotel is situated within a short walking distance of a vibrant commercial area, replete with various businesses, and is a 15 minute walk to downtown. Ash & 9th is a former Days Inn comprised of outdoor walkway. There are no balconies as depicted in advertising pictures. However, to its credit, the room was comfortable and has been renovated with new motion-activated lighting, bath fixtures, and appliances. A drawback was the necessity to have to unplug either microwave or coffee maker in order to use the preferred appliance. I found staff to be accommodating and guest-focused. Office closes at 11p.m.

Ash&9th will not get a repeat booking from any of my constituents for it has been the worst experience I’ve had in any hotel stay. First time that there’s nothing good I can even name(when I’m an Elite Yelper & always recognize great staff & acknowledge good stay in all my travels). From airport, basically will only sleep but aside from a $25 parking (even for hotel guest) in a risky spot with a cement pole too close to my car and staff Alex messed up credit card charging of $50 for 2 days and refund made me wait for 2 weeks (always telling me that there’s no manager on site and I should wait for the following Monday)… Tired from a trip, and broken drawers or the dresser were fully opened and doesn’t close which posted danger to the TV if it falls forward or might bump our legs as we walk infront of it. Which mind you, the TV was not working and the tissue holder in the bathroom was detached the wall broken. We could ignore the dirty shower floors but the fact that this hotel doesn’t have a staff after 12mn so no one to answer calls at the front desk. Elevator did not open after a long wait and female receptionist with lots of tattoo did not even smile as we check in, was not approachable and seemed to not love her job. For a “motel” type mediocre Days Inn at $171 plus $25/day parking and plus $125 deposit, so many better 4 star hotel could have been the same Price less the hassle we experienced. Never again for this hotel.

Felt catfished based on previous reviews. This place was not clean, floors with not properly cleaned, room was very damp feeling, smelled like feet, seal on door had a good 2 inch gap. At one point we stopped at the front desk to ask for more towels and he asked if we could wait 15 minutes so he could finish his PlayStation game. Constant running and noise from above. Highly do not recommend

Gives a bit of “lipstick on a pig” atmosphere. Can tell they just threw afresh layer of paint on the former Days Inn. A few things were new in the room like the shower and vanity but AC is old, peeling paint etc. no amenities but the staff were friendly.

I couldn’t sleep at night due to the noise from motorcycles and people at midnight. I asked the receptionist to change the bedsheet because it seemed like it had already been used before I checked in, but they never came. There was also a big fly or insect in the room.

Checked in, rude girl in the front, ac in room was making a loud noise and door would not lock asked to changed rooms when i walked in someone was on the bed sleeping!!!! She gave me another key and that room had trash and bed was messed up! At this point i got a refund it was 2am i was tired from the drive and ended up paying a lot more for another hotel last minute. The pictures on their website are so deceiving do not book here really bad hotel

I stayed there for four nights. The reception smelled like food, a bit dirty. The room was clean, and the service was good. The last night was terrible; I couldn’t sleep at all. There was a lot of noise outside: a person on a motorcycle in the hotel parking lot shouting and arguing, and I couldn’t rest.”

First of all they’re falsely advertising as a hotel when in fact it’s a motel, big difference. Then after canceling my room due to that fact, they tried to say someone was smoking in my room in order to keep my deposit, which is crazy due to the fact that I had 2 senior family members staying in that specific room. I checked out at 6am to attend an event on the Marine Corps base and I’m quite sure that due to the conditions of the room when it was checked in to, sticky floors, previous renters clothes behind furniture, the housekeeper didn’t come until the afternoon hours. Yet they “called “ the office to say that they felt the room had been smoked in. So not only are they advertising a hotel falsely, when you change your mind about the stay they’ll find a way to steal your money. If I could give them a zero rating I’d give the a negative 10.

Every time I visited the receptionist desk area, it was a different gentleman that was there. Some were rude and some were very nice. They didn’t allow me to check-in early and my room looked clean, but when the moment that I pulled my chair out, there was a pair of boxer briefs on it. The receptionist was nice enough to upgrade my room. However, the noises were so loud at night and a random stranger knocked on my door at 10pm in the middle of the night with his back turned against the door. He was just quietly staying there for a few minutes and I called the reception desk to check it out. I couldn’t sleep the rest of the night and I was horrified due to being a solo traveler. I attempted to check out the very next morning and got refunded for the other 2 nights that I am not staying. I was provided with a receipt and the receptionist told me to check with Expedia because sometimes the refund would not reflect since I booked it on here. But it’s been 3 business days and I still have not received the refund.

Room was clean with a great shower. Air conditioner worked well and there was the convenience of having both a microwave and a small refrigerator in the room.
