Rooms were nice, restaurant was nice and staff was great in restaurant. We picked this hotel because they have a restaurant and a bar for a drink after dinner, it was 8:30 and he was closing the bar he said it was no problem, he made the drink and gave us our bill at the same time did not talk at all and a little rude. I also read they have live music and they did not.

We stayed for 2 nights while attending the CT Sea Music Festival. It was a short distance away from Essex by car. Breakfast came with the booking, although when they handed us a menu with prices, we were a bit confused. Our room was in a seperate building out back up a hill on the property. We drove and parked behind the buiding where we stayed, but walked down and back for breakfast. Our room had an outside porch in the back. There was a dinner option, but we wanted to eat nerer to the festival. I would stay there again.

While it had "historic inn" charm, all the accoutrements and hardware were modern and thoughtfully installed and presented. The bathroom was especially luxurious and even included a large jacuzzi tub. The large room and bathroom were impeccably clean and though we eschewed maid service by displaying a Do Not Disturb card we returned to our room to discover a neatly wrapped bag of fresh towels placed outside the door. The driveway leading uphill to the outbuilding we shared with perhaps four other guest rooms was a bit rough but any modern vehicle could easily traverse it at a slow pace. The soundproofing was exceptional and we only sensed the presence of other guests by observing their parked cars and meeting them while traversing the charming garden path to the main building and dining room.

First of all, Daniel is lovely and hard working. He works behind the desk and he seems to work as a waiter and in the kitchen, as well. Second of all: bait and switch! All of the website pics are from the main building and most of the rooms are in the back in two very dilapidated buildings at the end of a very sketchy dirt road filled with deep pot holes. The two back buildings have a number of UNSAFE issues: namely, the outside stairs are broken. I put my weight on one and almost went through. These buildings need a great deal of repair -- broken slats on all of the plastic railings leading to second floors; room smelled very musty. Honestly, this is a place that must have once been beautiful and is in need of EMERGENCY repairs.
