The best deal in town, hands down. The managers are very sweet and caring people. It's a safe hostel and has a decent dining space. It's quiet there at night. They have dorm rooms that are kept clean. The clientele is very mixed; mostly students from Europe and some travelers from across the US

I loved the New Paltz Hostel Dorm Room - a great way to make friends while traveling. Here is just my thoughts Ask for a lower bunk when you book - most places go with a 'first come first serve' approach but they accommodated me. They have ear plugs and white noise machines if you are a light sleeper. The dorm has a 10pm curfew so you don't have to worry about anyone coming in late and making a bit of noise and being disturbed. Try not to be rude and to turn on the lights and make lots of noise. If you have to leave very early in the morning get all packed and ready the night before if you are making a pre-dawn departure.

Owner of property was very rude. I have given him a fair amount of business but he treated me with such disdain. I am a New Paltz resident, and it seems he is more interested in catering to out of towners in higher income brackets than a local who needs a place to stay every once in awhile. When it was suggested that I stay elsewhere it was recommended that for a similar price I could stay at the 87 motel, a buisness that not only has been closed for years, has actually been completely demolished. She got that idea from a list of other hotels in the area that is kept behind the check in area. Maybe the list could use an update. Just a thought.

You get what you pay for. The location of the hostel was very nice - just a few blocks from all of the shopping, restaurants, and breweries that New Paltz has to offer. We enjoyed not needing a taxi or any other form of transport to get back to our room. The cleanliness of our room (South America) left a lot to be desired. The sheets may have been washed recently, but because they were brown, it was impossible to tell. There was a large bleach stain and hole in the sheets also, which suggests that something gross had gotten on them. Pillows were low quality, and the comforter was adequate at best. The mattress was not uncomfortable but was incredibly noisy if we moved around. The bathroom appeared to have been cleaned, but there was little offered as far as "amenities." Only a bottle of cheap hand soap and value sized Dial body were available - how hard is it to just purchase individual size toiletries for guests. Similarly, the included coffee and oatmeal were in large communal containers: not particularly sanitary considering the shared nature of the kitchen space. Again, I think the extra cost for individual servings would be a welcome change. New Paltz was a very cute town to visit as a break from the fast pace of the city, and having an affordable option like this hostel was intriguing. However, the lack of attention to detail regarding cleanliness as well as poor quality toiletries, food, and coffee made our experience of staying in the hostel rather unwelcoming.

The building is in really poor condition and our room smelled damp and musty. Not being able to open the window fully didn't help. No one around a lot of the time and to leav bags with etc. if necessary. Generally a pretty poor experience.

Shared shower I used was too small. There was no shampoo or conditioner at all. I asked for it but they didn't have it. This seems like something basic they should have, or at least tell you in advance if you're supposed to bring your own. Plus there was no soap in shower and I had to ask for that. There were also lots of "do's and don't's" signs all over the place including "NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED". Again, they should tell you that in advance. I'd never stay there again

I was in town for a class. The hostel had a private room for me where I could wind down after class, really good value for my money. My only slight issue was my room online had a desk but they had a different room for me when I got there. Will def stay there again for the next class I take in New Paltz.

This reservation is completely fraud.
I want my money back otherwise I will never use your site Hotel.com. I did not use any service at New Paltz Hostel. This reservation is completely fraud. I booked room for two adults and one kid. My family spent night in the car. First, in Your Receipt I got message that it is Shared Dorm room and message of Cancellation policy “This special discounted rate is non-refundable”. In next e-mail that I printed (photo is attached) is written: Your room, 2 adults, Non-smoking, One Twin Bed. I thought that notice about Dorm room was mistake because one year ago I stayed in the same Hostel in room as was written (Your room, 2 adults, Non-smoking, One Twin Bed). I came to Hostel at 11 a.m. and I had to wait for 3 hours until 2 p.m. because facility closed. Access to hostel is completely ridiculous just from 2 p.m. to 10p.m. I came to visit festival in this area on which one the main activities start 9 p.m. Since Hostel did not provide key I could not entre to Hostel after 10 p.m. At the morning, you cannot go outside to buy basic food because you will not able to entre back until 2 p.m. I refused to use any services of Hostel under these conditions and I consider it like fraud.

Booked 3 nights @ the New Paltz Hostel. So far this is the best hostel I’ve ever stayed. Not saying the decorations and facilities is 100%, but the friendly staffs who helped me with my climbing plans and keep talking to me, make me feels like home. Good pricing and location 1mins walk to down town. They provide coffee, tea and oatmeal. I really liked the curfew in the dorm, no one disturbed me when I went to sleep, woke up early and went climbing. Thanks

Over all, the property is well maintained. But, once you check in, You can only re-enter between 2/10. You cannot even sit on the front porch in the morning to enjoy your coffee. There is no way to get back in. This is the only disappointment I have. As I am an early riser, I couldn't even go for a walk.

For the amount of money you're paying to stay here, this hostel is awesome! The staff was really helpful! There was always someone there to open the door for us and answer our questions. You are on the main street in down town next to the main bus line , so it was easy to get around! The hostel is also really clean and decorated nicely. Would definitely stay again!

Great place for a quick getaway from NYC at a very affordable rate. Check-in was quick and easy; girl I dealt with was nice. Free wi-fi was easy to connect to and had a strong signal throughout stay. Private “sunflower” room was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The hostel seemed fairly empty--or at least not full--so it was very quiet. But the room had a white noise machine in it and complementary earplugs. And also there was a space heater for some additional warmth due to the cold weather. Great extra touches. The common rooms looked clean and comfy but I didn't use them much. *Biggest complaint was the lack of hot water. The first night the shower supplied a couple minutes of hot water; the second night it was more like 30 seconds before it turned frigid. I let the staff know about the problem prior to checkout.

A cozy hostel with lots of patch works but staff was helpful and friendly. The bottom line is you cannot beat the price for a short overnight stay in the area!

Nice place to stay and had good facilities if you wanted to do your own cooking and eating as needed. Also right in the middle of downtown New Paltz which has excellent restaurants.
