With new rules, restrictions and safety measures to adhere to, travel looks a lot different these days. These are some handy things to know before you head off to Nelson Island:

• Find out if any travel restrictions apply to your origin and destination before locking in your flight. Also check if there are any special conditions you'll need to follow on arrival, such as mandatory quarantining.
• When you pass through airport checkpoints, keep your face mask on. You will be required to briefly lower it to verify your identity. Travelers who refuse to wear a face mask may face civil penalties and may also be denied boarding.
• To avoid cross-contamination, position your boarding pass on the scanner yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your pass directly to a TSA employee.
• TSA is now allowing passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on baggage. This will need to be removed from your bag for X-ray scanning.
• Put any personal items (like your phone, wallet and keys) in your carry-on rather than a bin to minimize handling during screening.
• Separate any food you have for screening. Food items often trigger the alarm. Putting them in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA agent to handle and inspect your belongings.

• WestJet - this airline is known for cleaning with disinfectant and electrostatic cleaning.
• Pacific Coastal Airlines - this airline is known for providing passenger masks and cleaning with disinfectant.
