This town has gorgeous beaches, a lighthouse, a boulevard, cliff jumps, wildlife in the wetlands and nightlife, great ingredients for a diverse vacation.
Negril is a small resort town with a lighthouse on the westernmost point of Jamaica. During the day the historic town is sleepy and because it is surrounded by cliffs and wetlands full of birds and crocodiles, it is a great place for nature lovers. The main attraction, however, is the stunning white beach with boulevards, cliffs and clubs along the shoreline. This is where you’ll want to be at night.
Start your day with a walk along popular Seven Mile Beach. Enjoy the gorgeous white sand and shallow, clear water and wade in for a snorkel to see stingrays. Watch the cliff jumpers as you sip a cocktail at the café above Pirate’s cove.
Take photos of the 1894 lighthouse, which you can tour for a small fee, and take in the ocean views from there. To learn more about the local slavery history, visit the small Hanover Museum in old police barracks on the north side of town.
Browse in the boutique stores that line the Norman Manley Boulevard and dine in local cafés and restaurants that spill out onto the beach. Visit the Negril Craft Markets for souvenirs.
On the other side of the beach, tour the Great Morass and spot one of the islands endangered species, the Jamaican crocodile. Keen bird watchers should head to the Royal Palm Reserve, a wetland reserve. Walk the boardwalks and spot a stunning array of birds, including Jamaican woodpecker, ospreys, sea hawks, egrets, and the endangered Jamaican black parakeets.
After sunset, take in smooth beachside jazz, join a One Love Pub Crawl, or sit back in a folkloric dinner party along Seven Mile Beach.
The resort town of Negril in Westmoreland is small and best explored on foot or by taxi. It is less than 2 hours from the International Airport in Montego Bay. If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort, then the airport transfers will often be included in your stay.
