Naples Historical Society's Historic Palm Cottage Tours

Naples Historical Society\'s Historic Palm Cottage showing heritage elements
Delight in the informative tours, lush gardens and tangible history of this authentic piece of 19th-century Americana.

Engage with the history of Naples and the Florida coastline at Naples Historical Society’s Historic Palm Cottage. This memorial to the architectural styles of 19th-century America houses an antique museum and is surrounded by the lovely Norris Gardens. Explore its important grounds and hear the story of how it came to be.

The Cottage is one of Naples’ most historic sites, with its construction dating back to 1895. It is one of very few remaining houses built using tabby mortar, a handmade cement mixture consisting of sand, shells and water. Due to the rarity of this technique, the building has been designated as a historic landmark. Admire its authentic charm that has survived the ages.

Take an educational tour of the house, guided by a knowledgeable docent of the Naples Historical Society. Enjoy a virtual journey into the past, aided by the guide’s focus on storytelling as a way of engaging with the history of the house and Naples. The tour includes a look at old photos and furniture used by the pioneers who settled the area and lived in the cottage.

Continue the tour outside to the remarkable Norris Gardens. This oval-shaped lawn showcases the journey of the grounds through time. Visit five distinct sections of the Gardens including an Edible Garden and a Shade Garden with its lofty palms and exotic species of plants.

On your way out, browse the charming gift shop that sells a number of cottage-themed trinkets. Proceeds contribute to the preservation of Naples history.

While in the area, be sure to spend some time at the historic Naples Pier. Like the cottage, this pier has survived a number of environmental disasters over the century and is a great destination for swimming, fishing or enjoying a stroll while watching the sunset.
