"I’ve stayed at The Essex Golf & Country Club several times before and have always had a pleasant experience, which is why this visit was so disappointing. Unfortunately, the room did not meet the usual standards I’ve come to expect. The bed hadn’t been made properly, which immediately gave a poor first impression, and the bath drain was extremely slow, making it frustrating to use. It’s a shame because I’ve enjoyed my previous stays here, but this time the lack of attention to detail really let things down. I hope this was just a one-off, as I would like to return in the future, but improvements definitely need to be made to maintain the quality guests expect"

"Room was lovely (20) & Hotel is very well done. Staff were all very friendly and had great service throughout our stay, from our arrival, bar/restaurant & the cleaners as left. Full English breakfast was amazing. Handy on site parking and a 15-20 minute walk into the city. Both agreed would like to stay again next time heading to Norwich."

"The staff were all polite and helpful, although some seemed a little inexperienced. We ate in the restaurant one night, the food was well presented, but the pork belly was over cooked and the chips were over salted. We also asked for the coffee tray to be cleaned & refreshed. Someone had come in, left a large bag of tea/coffee sachets in the room, but not cleaned the cups & tray - I assume they got distracted & didn't finish the job."

"The staff were friendly but were unable to change my room which was not ideal. I was given a disabled room- the fittings were heavily rusted, the shower flooded the entire bathroom and the sink was badly chipped. A deep clean of the room is also required"

"We stayed here over a bank holiday weekend for Spa break. We were disappointed with immediately after arrival on the day, were shown the leisure/spa facilities of the hotel, which we thought was the spa in the pics, we were not advised otherwise. Spoiler alert, the actual spa isn’t in the same premises, the one on the premises is pretty much like a local leisure centre with tired facilities. We only found the next day that we had to leave the premises to go to the actual spa after my husband took his laptop to the reception showed pics of the spa from here said, it doesn’t look like this here, that’s when they decided to say oh you wanted to go here, that’s over there (pointing at another building across the street) to cut a long story short we wasted our first day wondering where the hell is the spa. The only redeeming element was the bar downstairs specifically Joshua & Paul, they really made us feel very welcome and looked after us throughout the evening. Also the next we finally went to the spa across the street and it was absolutely fantastic, the spa team even gave us a little present to say sorry for the confusion."
