The hotel has no on-site staff (except maids). Guests check in via a kiosk manned by personnel in The Philippines. The audio on the kiosk was not working properly. Our coffee machine didn't function and no one answered our phone calls when we called to complain. I wonder what would happen if there had been a serious problem such as a leak. A truly horrible hotel. Stay away.

The property differed from the advertising. For the price it’s enough space and amenities. I wasn’t looking for much just to lay my head down for a night. The part that needed some attention was the AC unit and dehumidifier needing the mold cleaned out. Additionally, the room has been smoked in and filtered into the AC unit and dehumidifier. This left my clothes and myself smelling horrible after the visit. Room number 4 specifically.

Although I liked everything about the property;.I DIDN'T LIKE the fact that, when I returned to my room, the door was WIDE OPEN!!!! Apparently workers had been in my room??!! They left a pair of pliers on the sink. No one came back to close the door or get their tool for at least 20 minutes. Although the manager was apologetic; the fact is that anyone could have walked into my room and taken all my things!!!! It left a bad taste!

Rooms were big, the beds and furniture are unique pieces check in was done over the phone so it’s quick but you lose that personal touch, but overall for the money the place is good, it’s not a glorious stay and parking can be difficult but for what they’ve got they make it work

No employees on site. Room keys left in an unsecured drawer. Room was dirty. Bed comforter not clean. No vacuum marks on the carpet. Dusty. Black mold in the grout of the bathroom shower. Unusable toilet, tank components disassembled and water turned off. Did not stay in the room and had to find other accommodations.

It was very difficult to find the room. When I entered the room the bathroom was flooded and dirty. I had to move to an upstairs unit which was very uncomfortable

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!!!!!!!
We pre-paid for a two room king size bed apartment. The TV screen "person" tried to give us a queen bed room. Finally got it switched to king but was still just a room, not an apartment like we paid extra for. TV in the room was broken, bed sheets were dirty and hot water in the shower ran out after a few minutes. We live locally and just wanted a fun night away. I promise you we will make sure everyone we come in contact with knows how poor this place truly is. There is too much competition on the OBX for any place to be this crappy.

Property was clean and quiet. The room is very dated, which I did not mind. There is no staff for questions, my room did not have a hair dryer and when I called I was put on hold for them to call someone else to ask if one was available. There was not, so just make sure to pack yours! It was overall a nice stay.

This was probably the worst stay we’ve ever had at a hotel. Check in was different (you check in at a kiosk with a remote person) but was ok. Our room was #1 and had holes in the wall where possibly some things used to hang. The bed was about 40 inches high with no way to climb in. The mattress was a brick as were the pillows. The floors had paint all over them. You could tell where they had closed up doorways with nailed in plywood. It was very cute outside so we were shocked when we saw our room. Would not recommend to anyone.

Once in the room, we found it pleasant, clean and comfortably warm. Motel is easily accessible to downtown Manteo. Darrel's restaurant and McDonald's are across the street. Our biggest complaint is the check in process at Scarborough is done totally by computer. There is no personal contact. Anyone interested in staying at this place should be aware in advance. Our check-in was adequate. But our checkout was non-existent. We tried to checkout about 9am. The computer was not functioning. The phone number on the door went to voicemail. So we left our room keys in the room and bugged out.

The property was convenient to eateries. No people on duty except through kiosk. The window air conditioner was so loud it kept us awake. Luckily found a maintenance man who bought a part to fix the toilet that stopped flushing. We were booked for 2 nights but stayed only 1.

Disappointed at Scarborough Inn
I dont usually give bad reviews as a practice but this one needs telling. We were not pleased with the kiosk screen clerk. It seemed so impersonal for starters. The ladies there were professional and ptocessed us for the stay while we were there. We have stayed there before in the hotel building and it was fine, lovely with antiques and well functinal rm set up. I specifically asked for a apt well in advance and we were on ti.e for check in. I requested one away from the noisy street. Do not stay in Apt. 11 as it faces the busy street. No smoke detector as wires were hanging from the open spot of the ceiling. The toilet handle broke at first use. They did come out and fix it withib 30 minutes so credit due them for that. The mattress should have been updated as my husband and I rolled toward the center of it. There is a sink in the corner of the bedroom. Odd. The room just wasn't functional at all. TV wasn't working. I slept on the love seat couch in the living room due to the center rolling of the mattress. They had a humidifier in the bedroom that ran all the time and made the room quite stuffy. The Tv was place on a dresser between the wall walkway of the bedroom and living rm. So strange. Needless to say, we will not be staying here again. The price was outlandish for the lack of quality we got. Please do your homework and check out alternatives at this business and make sure you get a place worthy for your hard earned money.

Nice place
It was tough checking in since no one was at the hotel, we talked to a computer. Had some problems with the TV but all and all the place is nice. The room was clean and the bed comfortable.

I would describe the rooms as quaint. The furniture is clearly antique. The "couch" was beautiful but the springs were so sprung it was uncomfortable to sit on. A chair was broken. When I went to check in, the credit card reader for the virtual check in was down, so I had to manually enter my cc # on the screen. I was not very comfortable with that.

This used to be a superb little family run hotel. Now they have no manager on site. The new management consists of a kiosk where you virtually check in with a person located in the Philippines who dispenses a key from the kiosk. The key card failed three times, and so you went back again and again just to enter the room, identify yourself again, and get another key card. Your basic nightmare in a clean, well located hotel. Get a manager.

Stale and musty room. It’s a place to sleep (maybe). My son woke up coughing uncontrollably at 4am and it was time to leave.

Check in was on a screen with an employee working remote from the Philippines. Check in was slow and non-personal. Supposedly, a manager was onsite. Never saw “him.” Housekeeping did not know English, nor did we understand Spanish. Bathroom needs mildew removal spray. Some of the steps were rotted. The inn needs repair. I could tell some repair was taking place, but more needs to be done. Will not stay there again.

Older property that has been renovated. Antique furniture that is adequate and nice if you like antiques. No on-site staff, check-in through a kiosk with video connection to remote person, probably in SE Asia. This ended up working fine, even though we had an unusually situation - stay two night under two different reservations. We did get locked out after the check out time on the first reservation, but the kiosk video customer service rep was able to see our second reservation and issue new keys. It just cause needless concern as no one could take care of merging the two reservations when we first checked in. No response to phone calls to the hotel line, or emails, just the kiosk.
