"We chose the Tropicana San José del Cabo because it was located right in the Centro Historico area. For us, that was much more interesting than staying along the strip of generic resorts all clustered together along some road. Although the Centro Historico is pretty touristy, you still get a taste of Mexican families enjoying the neighborhood. Something that you’ll never find in the resort areas of San José del Cabo or (heaven forbid) in Cabo San Lucas. The hotel itself was immaculately clean and well taken care of. The rooms were adequately sized. It was very quiet and peaceful. Hot water was plentiful. There is a beautiful pool area and the restaurant is pretty good even though we only had a breakfast there. There is also a convenient, large gravel parking lot next to the hotel. There were a few things that could be improved. The first is the price. It was expensive for what you got especially considering that breakfast wasn’t included. The beds were a little hard for my liking. They also have a really think quilt, which looks nice, but to sleep comfortably you have to turn the A/C down really low and it just didn’t quite get there. The provided toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion) were really poor quality, not reflective of the rate they charge. They don’t provide bottled drinking water in the room just an open carafe that doesn’t indicate a source - and the one sip I took tasted funny. None of these were deal breakers, but next time I might shop around."
