Beautiful hotel in the perfect location of Kyoto. Close walk to Pontocho Alley & Gion, but also the best spot to walk the quiet streets in the morning. Large rooms with a classic Japanese look. The nicest staff as well. Highly recommend!

Very happy with our stay here. We stayed in a room with a big private bath. The hotel and area are very quiet, a welcome sanctuary in busy Kyoto. There are several convenience stores nearby and bus stops which can take you to the main attractions. When we visited the restaurant was under construction, bento boxes were delivered to the room for breakfast. The hotel helped us ship our bags to our next stop in Osaka. All staff members we encountered were polite and helpful. A very comfortable stay, highly recommended

I think the hotel is newly opened and the staffs may need a bit more training especially for foreigners who don't speak Japanese. They were extremely gracious and are trying all their best but the communication was a bit clunky.

I recently stayed at this hotel, and it was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed. Check-in was smooth, warm, and efficient. Staff assisted with our luggage handling/forwarding. The room was spotless, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable. The bed felt like sleeping on a cloud, and the attention to detail—from the high-quality linens to the thoughtful amenities—really stood out. Housekeeping did an amazing job throughout my stay. The hospitality here is unmatched. Every staff member I interacted with was attentive, kind, and eager to ensure I had everything I needed. It’s rare to feel this taken care of while traveling. The facilities were equally impressive. The onsen was exceptional. The location was perfect, with easy access to local attractions, yet quiet enough to relax and unwind. Overall, this hotel exceeded every expectation. I’m already looking forward to returning and will definitely recommend it to friends and family. A truly memorable stay!

This hotel was absolutely amazing. We felt like we had a spa stay. The room was so beautiful and the whole Hotel has this calm, special feel to it. The gym was great- and hard to find in hotels in Japan- and the onsen was lovely Honestly one of the nicest hotels we have ever stayed in Location is great too!

Yugen Kyoto Shijo was the nicest hotel. It was so beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I loved the area we were in because everything was within walking distance. This was by far my favorite hotel in Japan.

Nice, friendly staff gave recommendations for local restaurants. Room and hotel are pristine and very comfortable. Great sauna / public bath area (separate for men vs women) that’s open to 1am. Only minor detractions are small/basic gym equipment where the dumbbells are a bit light, and it’s about 10-15 walk to closest metros which isn’t too far, but also not particularly close either.

I stayed at Yugen Kyoto Shijo and it was honestly the best hotel of my entire trip! The hotel is new, super clean, and beautifully designed modern but with a lovely traditional Japanese touch. The location is very central and perfect for exploring Kyoto. The staff were always incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure everything went smoothly during my stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, which is rare in Japan where most hotels have very small rooms. For the price I paid, it was amazing value! I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.
