Very clean, comfortable, and convenient
This is the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in! The staff is also super friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Warm place to stay
The owner is such a sweet and helpful lady, and makes it easy for you to explore Kyoto. Breakfast area converts to a quiet restaurant, so enjoy a dinner here and try the shochu.

Great accomodation in Hyakumanben Cross
Stayed for a week while attending a conference at Kyoto University, as it is strategically located at Hyakumanben Cross and 5 min walk away from Demachiyanagi Station (super convenient!) - many options for transportation around. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by beautiful smiles of the hosts. The place is super clean and well taken care off. There is a restaurant underneath and the food they serve is super delicious!! The people who runs the place treat their guests like family members, we felt very welcomed throughout our stay. We were clearly informed about the facilities around and modes of transportation to visit various places. Others guests were also very polite and considerate, as we managed to exchange daily pleasantries. We slept very well with minimal to negligible/nonexistent noise level. So many to describe but you have to come and stay here to experience is awesomeness of this place. Highly recommended to any travellers!

Comfortable bedding brought me good sleep at very cold snowing night. Public and room area is clean and tidy and free offer towel for taking bath. Location is convenient as bus stop is nearby. Staff is friendly especially the old lady. I will consider to stay again at this warm & convenient guesthouse next time I go to Kyoto.

Room was great size but somewhat spartan for amenities. We thought we were going to have a private bathroom external to the room but all bathrooms are shared. Not a problem for us but unexpected. Management were very helpful with transportation options.

High quality for a hostel experience
Once you accept that there is an 11pm curfew and that the walls are not so thick, you will have a nice stay. I felt the overall condition of the hostel was excellent; the toilet was clean and modern; the shower was clean and had strong water pressure.

Great guesthouse with view of Mt. Daimonji
The hotel was very clean, staff were friendly and recommended some excellent restaurants. There is quite a lot to do in the area, with plenty of restaurants, ice cream, arcade, karaoke, clubs, etc. Our room had a terrific view of Mount Daimonji and was very comfortable, albeit not very spacious. However, one issue we had was with other guests being noisy after curfew. There is no phone in the room, so there isn't really any way to contact the staff to let them know about it. I ended up having to deal with it myself, and tell the person who was literally trying to have a business conference call outside of the door to my room to kindly GTFO.

Great place to stay for Kyoto University visitors
I was looking for somewhere to stay close to Kyoto University for a business trip. The Guesthouse Hyakumanben Cross was perfect! It's small, comfy, very neat and clean, and just a short nice walk from the campus. The local streets have many small restaurants and coffee shops. It is also a convenient short walk to bus stops to the main train station, and the Keihan train line (Demachiyanagi stop).

I enjoyed my stay very much. The room was clean and comfortable, even including air conditioning. It might have been nice to have a basin in the shower room rather than right next to the kitchen area so as to not have to brush teeth etc in public. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

A hidden gem
I chose this place on a whim after booking a trip to Kyoto on short notice, and I really hit the jackpot! Hyakumanben Cross was super clean and well-run; it had a really friendly atmosphere and the owners spoke excellent English. The owners really went out of their way to make me feel welcome and to make sure that I enjoyed my stay. For example, they provide a free walking map of the city and are happy to give suggestions for bus routes or sights to see in the area. I stayed in a shared mixed-gender room with three strangers, but I always felt safe, and I felt comfortable leaving my things in the locker provided. The washrooms and the shared kitchen area were also clean and tidy.

A place to sleep.
My boyfriend and I stayed in a private room with two twin beds. Our room was on the same floor as another private room, with which we shared a bathroom, shower room and kitchen. The place is cozy and clean with very nice and helpful staff who spoke some English. Not the ideal place for a couple to stay, but conveniently located in Kyoto without breaking the bank. Enjoyed the complimentary tea and coffee in the morning before visiting all the local temples.

comfortable and very nice place, staff are excellence and friendly. way to guesthouse, you can take subway and walk 3 traffic light distance, then turn left cross a small road, turn right to reach this guesthouse. or you can get out of the JR kyoto station to find a bus no. 17 which can arrive hotel more near.

Excellent Hospitality
Very friendly people running an immaculate place with great amenities including very fast WIFI and clean modern bathrooms despite being shared. Location a bit far from the station but good for major sights in NE Kyoto.

Great place, okay location
Our room was fine, but always all lit up. The outside lights from a building nearby shone through our rice paper window shades, so achieving any amount of darkness was impossible. Service was great, the building itself was amazing, but the location was described as ideal and it was really just somewhat satisfactory. I did like that it was close to a train stop. Kyoto was not my favorite city in Japan, but it was nice to return back to a lovely building such as this one.

Vi bodde på detta Guesthouse i sex nätter, i ett klassiskt rum med tre futons. Personalens engagemang och mycket personliga bemötande var fantastiskt med allt ifrån språkråd till tips om aktiviteter och lokala händelser. Hotellet är välstädat rent och fräscht, både på rummen och i gemensamma utrymmen men toalett, dusch, tvättmaskin, kök. I de gemensamma lokalerna fick vi möjlighet att träffa andra resenärer från andra delar av världen, vilket var mycket trevligt och ledde till intressanta möten. Här finns också mycket böcker och även turisttidningar och annan bra information. Det fanns också en fotmassage-maskin för trötta fötter, vilket vi uppskattade mycket. I köket fanns bra möjlighet att förvara egen mat och allt som behövdes för att tillaga och äta. Det finns också en liten restaurang med utmärkt mat. I närheten finns flera butiker där man kan köpa mat och flera restauranger med bra mat. Nära till busshållplatsen och enkelt att åka till centrala Kyoto. Bättre än så här blir det inte! Om vi möjlighet kommer vi att besöka detta Guesthouse igen.

タオルや歯ブラシは持っていく必要がありますが、エコでいいと思います！ 少し賑やかになりそうだった外国の方たちのグループに「これから寝るところです」と伝えたら、すぐに静かになりました。よく眠れました。たくさん良質な本や漫画があるのも温故知新な感じです。

オーナーのお母さんとお嬢さんがとっても温かくもてなして下さって、お部屋も共有スペースも快適でした。 １階「きりん家」の朝食も和・洋定食から選べて、夜は居酒屋さんになるので近所の方と楽しくご一緒できました。 バス停もすぐそばで、とても便利。 また伺います！！
