Really enjoyed our stay. Perfect day of relaxation in an otherwise exhausting trip. Location is slightly out of the way but extremely charming (even in winter), and the train ride from Atami station was absolutely breathtaking with the seaside views.
The best weekend escape. This is my second time here and I’m 100% sure I will be coming back again. It is worth so much more than what you pay. It’s spacious with a private indoor and outdoor bath. You even have your own garden space which you can enjoy all day with the big glass windows. The breakfast was healthy and warm, perfect to start the day. The surrounding area is very peaceful and feels like the perfect escape. I was feeling stressed from my busy work life in Tokyo and a night at this ryokan healed me. I will be back soon.
The traditional Japanese hotel is so spacious that it surprises us the minute we walked in. It has a full living area, a bedroom and a long patio that provides excellent view to the back yard. It has a private indoor hot spring tub and a private outdoor onsen. The back yard lead to hotel garden area which has all kinds of beautiful flowers and plan. Mountain is just next to the backyard. The ambience was excellent. A simple traditional Japanese breakfast was provided for free a request.
It was a great experience. Nice big, very traditional rooms, with two private onsens and a private patio/garden. It was very warm and comfortable and had everything needed. I really loved relaxing in the onsen and enjoying the garden view and feeding the koi fish.
This Ryokan was amazing. The staff were welcoming and gracious. The rooms are huge and traditional japanese style with futons and tatami mats. Each room had its own separate hot spring bath as well as separate men's and women's shared baths. The food was delicious and filling. It is located in a great small town nestled in a mountain valley. A quiet respite from the big city. Would definitely stay again!
As the "hanare" part of "hanareya" suggests, this location is quite far from what you might consider urban Japan, and as such is a good place for some relaxing quiet time.
The ryokan room I had was very spacious despite being the smallest type, especially for one person. There was the genkan (entrance area), a big room for eating, a big room for sleeping, a corridor with chairs/tables and a safety deposit box, a closet with a yukata, a toilet, a separate bathroom sink area, one small indoor onsen and one small outdoor onsen.
I ordered the half-board option, and requested to have my meals in my room. The way that worked was they'd deliver the trays to the entrance where I'd pick them up, then once I was done eating I'd call the front desk and they'd come and take back the trays. Food was nice.
Not much to do outside at night, I just walked to the MaxValu supermarket and back as a night stroll.
If you're coming to Kawazu for the cherry blossoms, maybe come towards the middle/end of the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival dates. I went basically the day before the festival started (not intentionally, timing just happened to be a near miss), and whilst this year the sakura were slower to bloom than usual due to the cold, I don't think you'll see much on festival day 1, just the occasional single bloom here or there.
It's inconvenient to get to (need car), but I'd recommend also checking out the Izu Orange Centre in the area and trying the orange juice there.
A very unique and traditional way to experience the country side Onsen in Japan. Staff spoke limited English but very professional. the view was stunning. Simple breakfast was provided
It was amazing. My toddler, friend and I enjoyed the experience. Our building was so beautiful. My friend and I enjoyed the onsens so much. My toddler loved feeding the koi. The futons were pretty comfortable. We used the onsens so many times. My friend liked the outdoor one since it isn't as hot as inside but i didn't mind.
I tried the public bath at night and there were spiders in the room. They were big. It was nice to use too but better if there weren't spiders but it makes sense why they were there.
Food was inconvenient since they didnt have any meals except breakfast which needed a reservation since we came on the off season. I feel like the food would be amazing. There wasnt a lot of food super close and some places closed early but thats only negative oh and at night it isn't too bright walking back to the ryokan.
This beautiful property is located within walking distance of the Kawazu station and the sakura festival. The service was excellent and our detached room felt like a private home. We had a huge koi pond off the balcony (they even provided fish food), a private outdoor bath, as well as an indoor onsen. We had dinner delivered to our room and it was amazing! 5/5 stars!!!
The Ryokan is beautiful well kept and very clean and comfortable highly recommend. Please pack light as it is very hard to impossible to get a taxi to return to the station it is arround 7-10 minutes on foot. Every thing in the Ryokan is magical the hot water springs bath outside is amazing ours even was fragrant as cherry blossoms fell from the nearby tree into the hot water giving it a natural cherry blossom parfum.
We love our room it’s big, clean and we have a private outdoor hot springs onsen. Our room is situated at the corner surrounded by a big garden with Sakura trees and a koi pond. The Japanese breakfast is a free service offered by the ryokan. It’s simple but filling. The ryokan is only 10 minutes walk from the Cherry Blossom festival and 20 minutes walk from Kawazu station.
