"One of the benefits of historic boutique hotels is that they have character, and an experience that you will not get from a chain. The Stanyan Park Hotel is a perfect example, from the foyer, to the photographs on the walls tracing over a century of history, to the old-world style of the rooms. The staff at the front desk were always pleasant, on the way in or on the way out. It is right across the street from Golden Gate Park and a short walk to restaurants, and a good walk to the University of San Francisco - especially if you take a detour through The Panhandle."

"The hallways smell very unpleasant. The carpets seem extremely old and dirty and give off a damp, stale odor — like in very old buildings where carpets haven’t been cleaned properly for years. Another big issue is the noise. The sound insulation is very poor, and you can clearly hear what’s happening in other rooms. Someone upstairs was constantly moving furniture around midnight and even 1 a.m., which made it very difficult to sleep. The hotel also doesn’t have its own parking, which is a big downside. The closest parking garage is about a 12-minute walk away. The room itself is extremely small. The windows are very old and don’t block outside noise at all — it feels almost like they’re open. Because of that, it also gets cold at night since cold air comes through. The bathroom sink is unbelievably tiny. It’s almost impossible to wash your face because there isn’t enough space for your hands and face under the faucet. Water constantly splashes onto the floor, so I had to keep a towel there to absorb it. The shower pressure was also very weak. Another odd detail: the room has a refrigerator and microwave, but there is no table or place to sit and eat, so it seems like you’re expected to eat on the bed. The only real positive is the location — it’s very close to the Painted Ladies, about a two-minute walk. I also want to thank the housekeeping staff: they changed the towels daily, emptied the trash, and overall the room itself was reasonably clean."

"Thought the $20 per day “Amenity” charge was lame. If I would have known it was going to cost more than the stated bottom line, I would have gone further up the Hill, out of the Cusp of the TL. Room 211 is in close proximity to the laundry room, that seemed to only run during sleeping/quiet hours. I won’t go back. "

"The hotel and the room was good and clean, the staff was really nice and gentile. The instructions were clear and I didn’t had any problem. The room is small but is okey for shorts stays and the location is really good. The only thing that I could say wasn’t perfect were that the bedding had some stains but it didn't smell bad or anything."
