staff and receptionists they care only how to take money from you . as example if you ask for small upgrade while hotel is empty and now one in the online it cost 5 dollars he will ask for 20 € why you tell him online is cheaper he will will till you ok then 5 € , if you tell him it is 5 $ he will insist to take by € . if want to invite friend to have coffee in your room not allowed he will ask for extra money. cleaners are so kind and polite top management are good there are lady from Greece ask about here she is good you can 3easy talk with here more respectful than turk staff

Walls are very thin, you can hear everything from other rooms. Cleaning staff are very loud. Room service refused to procide cutlery unless you order food. Sewer smell in hotel Move furniture and see places never cleaned before. Reception people are ok

Very bad hotel
This was not a 4 star hotel. We picked this hotel because of the location and the decent reviews. I went with very low expectations because not all of the reviews were good, but still I was hoping for a decent experience. The rooms were stuffy, smelly and the beds were old. there was water damage on the ceiling. The wifi was very slow, the tv only had 8 channels, none of them in English and most were barely viewable. Fortunately, we were on the 3rd floor so I thought far away from the 8th floor restaurant and music, but we could still hear it. We were outside the hotel most of the time touring Istanbul, but when we came back to our room at 11pm the music was still going very loud and continued until 1:00am. The only semi positive comment I have was that the pool water was warm, so very swimmable, but it only opened at 2:00pm, very inconvenient and the sides of the pool walls were covered with mold. I will be lucky if I don't come down with some terrible disease. Avoid this hotel if you can.

Traditional, fairly upscale, priced reasonably
Nice location, overlooking the Golden Horn. Great view from the restaurant. Good service. Plenty of amenities. Has a bit of an older feel. All in all good stay.

It's all about people.Some staff was nice and helpful, others not. Non-smoking rooms still smell of smoke, it's seeping in mainly through the bathrooms. WiFi is less then ideal, different passwords all the time. Breakfast room has an overpowering smell of cleaning products, mixed with perfumes.

Even 2 stars are too much for this dirty stinky lodging house. AC is awful. Service is terrible. Rooms are so packed you can not even easily open suitcase or change clothe. Everywhere smells disgusting. All personnel are unbelievably rude, unprofessional, incompetent, and impatient. Forget about here and do not waste your money.

An utterly deplorable experience: the behaviour of the hotel reception and staff on the check out day was disgraceful and disgusting. We were told to pay 46 TK lira for having used the minibar in spite of the fact that we had just taken 2 bottles of water. I explained it to them, also told them the minibar was somehow empty at the the day of arrival ( 2bottles of water+wine + redbull) . They showed me the check list which was useless and had been manipulated by them to rip off the customer by these fraudulent documents. I told them usually hotels around the world top up the minibar when the chambermaid is cleaning the room and why had our minibar not been topped up if, for argument's sake, some items had been used from the minibar? Incidentally, I emphasized several times that my frinends and I are muslim and don't drink. However, there was no response from them except begging for money. I had a flight and was very frusrated since they were barely able to communicate in English, and whatever I told them the only response was: you consumed them. I would not have paid them a penny if I had had time and would not have let them to defraud and extort me in broad daylight. Furthermore, the hotel did not have any coffee or tea facilities apart from the kettle despite the fact that it has been mentioned in the hotel amenities. Never ever book this hot.Please do not respond by saying : we are sorry that you have a bad exprience. It had been intentionally designed by the staff.

It was 4 star ..but before 10 years maybe!!! The suna & Turkish bath is not included. ..you need to pay for everything!! A I arrived about 23:50 in the night after a long business trip ..I found my room ready ..that was great ...but at 7 in the morning the housekeepers started in the adjecnt rooms making a lot of noise ..there is no sound isolation so you will hear everything in the adjecnt rooms or in the aisles ...I found better brekfast in 3 star hotel.

Hotel is well situated, close to a metro station and within walking distance of the pedestrian street. Nice lobby and ground floor. Free access to internet and wi-fi. The room we had was rather smallish but ok. The room we had suggested the walls are not well insulated. We could hear the loud family next door and had to complain to the hotel management three nights in a row. Also, in a different room later, there was the bad smell of people who smoked in the room that was made worse by the air conditioning unit somehow. The housekeeper sprayed the room and that helped to reduce the smell. In Turkey, smoking is prohibited now in public places but it seems that hotel guests are not respecting the restriction. Overall, good value for the money.

Family getaway overlooking the sea
The Grand Hotel Halic is a pretty decent hotel with good location close to Taksim Square. The pool and sauna facilitis are quite good. The rooms are quite spacious and clean, though they have old furniture. The breakfast has large number of choices and the free WiFi is fantastic. Its quite close to Taksim Square and to other water activities near Eminou. A whole range of restaurants are closeby. You get a decent view of sunset overlooking the sea.
