"When we arrived to check in the room was not ready. Turns out they were not even aware of our booking until we showed it to them. We then had to wait two hours whilst the owner came to the property to get the room ready. Waiting outside in the side proved to be a disaster as their outdoor table and chair was covered in a black bitumen type substance that got all over the bottom of my trousers and completely ruined them. The Botany Bay Hotel

8/10 Good

"Room was a good size and clean. Staff on arrival were great. Good choice of drinks at the bar and food looked good. Rooms were a bit warm considering the unusuallu hot heatwave but they had Dyson fans which helped. Nespresso coffee machine was a great touch, iron and ironing board in room. I would stay again. One frustration: Breakfast! Turned up, guy came over in seconds asked room number. Walked over to get juice, no glasses, would have got toast, no small plates, waited 10 mins then asked for service, person was cleaning a table and said someone will be over soon, few mins later the table behind us asked how long their food would, turned out their food had been forgotten so had to reorder, soon as they reordered we asked if we could order too as we were more than ready, was told they'll be over in a min, 5 later still no one...more than 25 mins of no service we walked and told the lady at reception who offered to take our order. As we left I could see 3 waiters looking at us talking, probably about us leaving, I was surprised they had the time to chat considering we waited so long to get served."

"This cost, gorgeous traditional B&B was perfect for a short stay in Ramsgate. We were greeted on arrival by Gary, who was very welcoming and explained everything to us, and even showed us to our room. The room was clean and modern, and we were lucky enough to have a room with a balcony that looked out onto the sea in the distance, perfect for a morning coffee. Thank you so much!"

"A nice little place in the centre of the action, near the beach, near some shops, near pubs and eateries. Could be romantic. Pub noise opposite does stop at midnight. Generally well-appointed, the three larger rooms are done out beautifully, though our room, "Beach", was small with an attempt at a beach hut look. Bed very comfortable, floor painted, no carpet, the room is decorated in grey, white and a (feature?) wall in orange. One clothes rack, no drawers The bathroom floor needed regrouting and so it harboured dust, which got onto the towels. The toilet had a stylised monster motif at the front looking up at you and the sound of its cistern was similar to a 737 at take-off. The main doubt I would have about the Beach room, and possibly the others, is that the roll-top Victorian-style bath is not a shower, though it has a spray handpiece. It is also on a little dais of its own and therefore getting in and out can be tricky, what with the height and the slipperiness of the curved-bottom bath. It nearly legged me up getting in, and my wife just slipped back in 5 times after her bath. I wouldn't recommend this for anyone over 60 or unsteady on their feet."

"We came to Margate to escape a heat wave in London, so the air con was much appreciated! Beyond that, we loved the luxe bed and bedding, the updated bathroom with gorgeous shower, and the drapes which allowed us to keep out the heat. Location is perfect, in the midst of Old Town yet no traffic passing by and very quiet st night! Overall, a perfect place to stay in Margate."

"Absolutely loved this hotel and wish we could have stayed more than 1 night! Very clean and stylish throughout with lovely little extras like a record player in the room plus a pantry where you could help yourself to pick n mix and other snacks. Also an amazing roof bar with a beautiful sea view. Plenty of choice at breakfast. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend and will stay again!"
