We did the bright angel trail. If you go all the way down to the third water station it is a very difficult hike back up.
They had controlled fires when we went. Avoid mid to late day visits when these are happening. The smoke in the air takes away from the beautiful scenery and picnicking.
Desert View and Watch Tower a must.
We took the shuttle which was a cinch and very convenient.
Don't go during school spring break; restaurants and lounges (virtually all facilities) are grossly overcrowded. Regrettably, the place is 100 years old and substantially inadequate for the current population!
