S&A Vondel Park Hotel

2/10 Terrible

"I booked a superior room, but it was nothing like the photos. The bed was up against two doors to outside, so you couldn’t sit up or relax. The walls were filthy, with chipped or cracked paint and the shower had black mould around the edges. The toilet was in a cupboard so small you couldn’t close the door if you were using it. The bed was propped up with a block of wood, and the worst part was that there were small crawling bugs under the covers when I tried to go to sleep. I complained twice at reception and was told the hotel was fully booked. I asked if nobody had checked in yet and could I have their room. I was eventually moved after an hour or so, to a room that was better, but still very tired. The shower in the second room was lukewarm at best, with barely any pressure and hand wash provided in the shower as the only product available. Overall, at €330 per night I would not stay here again and would not recommend. The staff were friendly and understanding, but the hotel itself is very tired and run down."

"We booked this room because it was cheaper compared to other locations closer to the city centre, but really, was still more expensive than we wanted to spend for 3 nights. This was a little further than we would’ve liked but we enjoyed walking. Rooms are small, but that doesn’t bother us. Our bed was broken, it basically rolled both of us to the middle."

"I had a great stay at this hotel. The property was very clean, and the staff was friendly and helpful throughout my visit. It was also convenient to have a bar on-site, which made it easy to relax in the evenings. The location was excellent — close to plenty of shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. Overall, a very comfortable and convenient stay, and I would definitely recommend it."

"Good location, easy to catch the tram from the train station to nearest tram stop and then just walk a couple of minutes to the hotel. Plenty of restaurants nearby, room was clean and quiet. We did notice that there was no proper place to hang your clothes except for this small bottom cupboard that would have folded clothes in half while using. Overall a very good stay!"

"We were concerned with previous negative reviews but honestly the room was clean and we had everything we needed. We felt safe and it was easy to catch a bus to get anywhere we needed. There were plenty stores nearby if you needed grocery or last minute travel items. I really enjoyed that it was just far enough away from all the tourist attractions but took us no time to get to them. There are plenty of lovely coffee shops, bakeries and brasseries nearby. We did not pay for the breakfast but it’s nice that there was that option. Honestly, it was a much better stay than expected."
