White sands, crystal clear water, province park hikes and stunning Atlantic vistas make this beach a day-tripper’s paradise.

Crystal Crescent Beach is a stretch of three white sandy beaches backing onto Nova Scotia Province parkland. This secluded stretch of sand offers a range of attractions for active visitors and a crystal blue-green ocean vista for those who prefer relaxing on the shore.

This is an easy day-trip from Halifax. The scenic half-hour drive meanders through Sambro Creek to the mouth of Halifax Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean.

Stroll along boardwalks on two of the beaches and hop over the rocks to the third.

From the beach you can join a scenic and meandering hiking trail along the coastline. Pack some snacks and follow the trail all the way to Pennant Point, 6 miles (10 kilometers) away. Complete the full 8-mile (13-kilometer) trek that loops along the coast and features some diverse hiking terrain over beaches, boardwalks, stairs and rocks. Be sure to bring your own water, as this hike requires a full day.

Settle on one of the two family friendly beaches and enjoy warm sand and plenty of room to play. Visitors who are adventurous in body and spirit can clamber the rocks to the third beach and get back to nature in the secluded nudist area.

The small convenience and take-out store nearby to the beach is handy for last-minute trips, or bring your own picnic and make a day of it. At the beach there are two pit-toilet facilities and benches for enjoying the scenery.

Warm Nova Scotian summers make August the best time to visit, when tourists swim all day in the clear turquoise water. There are many rewards for those who visit outside the summer months. Hike through the dunes and bracken to explore the Atlantic coastline and catch a sighting of Canada’s wildlife. Venture into the pine trees and sea grasses for excellent birdwatching.

Rent a car to reach Crystal Crescent Beach. The beach is accessible year-round and free to use. Find trail maps and hiking information online.
