Fountains bubble in shady spaces, grand architecture towers above the surroundings and cafés seem to exist in every corner of this central Cordoba neighborhood.

Located just southwest of the city center, Ciudad Jardín is a predominantly residential neighborhood with some cultural sights. Ciudad Jardín literally translates to “Garden City,” as it was originally planned in the 19th century with many gardens and parks. Interestingly, it wasn’t until more than a century later that its first park, Parque Juan Carlos I, was created. Today enjoy the peaceful haven this park offers local residents and visitors.

Visit Parque Juan Carlos I during daylight hours. Escape the midday heat with a picnic in the shady areas or try out one of the nearby cafés. Rest on a bench near the pond and listen to the bubbling of the fountains. There is also a playground for kids to enjoy active entertainment.

Nearby find the University of Córdoba, which is a well-preserved, grand and ornamental building with small gardens in the front. Stop for a few minutes to gaze up at this intricately designed building. Have a coffee while you’re here, even if it’s just an excuse to admire this building a little longer.

Ciudad Jardín has no shortage of cafés, bars and restaurants, so no matter the time of day you will have many options for food, beverages and entertainment.

Reach Ciudad Jardín easily on foot from the city center in 10 minutes or less. However, you’ll likely take longer as you stop to view sights along the way. Most routes will include a crossing of the Jardines de la Victoria, a spacious park near the center where you can easily spend 5 minutes or 5 hours. Just west of Ciudad Jardín is the famous bullring, Plaza de Toros Los Califas, which can seat up to 17,000 people. Check the website to see what events are on.

Ciudad Jardín is worth visiting to break away from the city center for a while, relax in peaceful green spaces and see some of the daily Córdoba lifestyle.

Adorable spot for a break while wandering around Cordoba. We happened upon it by chance, and it looked so cute we had to check it out. We were quite content sitting in the courtyard while sipping a sweet horchata and a lovely orange flavored iced tea.
