I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Evanston, IL, and was very disappointed with the experience—especially considering the nearly $300 per night rate.
I chose this hotel for its location, as it’s close to where my daughter was moving in. However, the first impression was jarring: I arrived just before midday to find the hotel’s main entrance doors locked. I’ve never encountered that at any hotel before.
The limited services were another letdown. The “light touch housekeeping every other day” policy was not communicated at the time of booking or check-in. On top of that, Wi-Fi was only available to Hilton Honors members or those who booked directly through Hilton’s website. In today’s world, that feels unnecessarily restrictive.
As a frequent traveler and a loyal member of both Marriott and Hyatt, I’ve come to expect a certain standard of services similar to those received in Marriott or Hyatt hotels, even in their low cost brands—and this stay did not meet it. Overall, I found the experience to be poor value for the money.
