The area is perfect—great for shopping, dining, sightseeing, etc. However, the hotel is nowhere I'd stay again. It's outdated; they don't provide anything in the room except tea and decaffeinated coffee—which they ran out of. The refrigerator in our room didn't work, and there was no ice/vending machine that I saw. And I'm not sure what their website means regarding luxury bath amenities. There was nothing special, just standard awful soap/shampoo and a lighted mirror that didn't work.
It also took forever to get checked in. We got into Chicago around 7:30 a.m., but we'd received a text from The Whitehall stating that if we paid $30/room, we could check in at 11. When we got to the hotel, they told me that paying early was not an option. So, this left us to roam the city until 4 p.m. (although they told us to check in at 1, then 2 ...) Once we got to our rooms (our daughter had a room, too), they were over 80 degrees. Maintenance was called, and it took hours for the rooms to cool down.
On their website and lobby signage, they say they offer a $10 food/beverage credit for a nearby venue, but we didn't receive anything. The day before we left, they shut off our key card.
The front desk staff is clearly stressed, but this hotel offers nothing short of a good location. Due to a ton of inconvenience, they promised to refund us $30 for each room, but only one was completed. Also, there is a 13th floor, which is where our rooms were—haha—maybe that explains some things.
