If you’re poorly prepared, airports and flying can be a real challenge. But there’s no need to hit the panic button just yet. Follow these helpful hints and enjoy a pain-free start to your getaway in Hakone. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right things. Firstly, you’ll want some basic toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare pair of socks and a magazine or two. Secondly, find a spot in your hand luggage for your electronic gadgets, chargers, medications and maybe a quality neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, remember to bring your passport, travel papers and some cash.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) won’t be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your precious pocket knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and matches, are also banned.
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of a plane are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and remember to take a sweater as it can get quite cool inside the cabin during long-haul flights. Flat, enclosed shoes are always a good idea too.
- Unfortunately, a risk of long-distance flying is developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To prevent this, make the most of every opportunity to wander around the cabin. Compression socks and tights are another easy way to help lower your risk.
