The room had yellow caution tape all on the outside balcony, due to the building crumbling right above my room. The door handle broke off as I entered the room, literally the handle was in my hand detached from the door. The outside of the front of the room was flooded due to the ceiling leaking, so I was walking over puddles of water as I exited the room. Reported all of theirs to front desk and housekeeping within minutes of checking in nothing was done. Went to use restroom in room and was greeted by roaches crawling everywhere. Took them 24 hours to move me to a different room.

I stayed at the Occidental Tucancún for five days, and overall, the experience left a lot to be desired. Food: Needs improvement. The buffet food was consistently lukewarm and lacked flavor. Most dishes tasted old and under-seasoned. I highly recommend making reservations at the Mexican restaurant onsite—it’s the best option available. However, be prepared to line up early (around 7 a.m.) just to secure a spot. It’s unfortunate that you have to spend part of your vacation standing in line just to get a decent meal. Room: Needs improvement. My friend’s first-floor room had roaches, and her balcony was taped off due to visible decay on the level above. In my room, there was no screen on the balcony door, which felt like a safety issue, especially for families with children. When I moved the wall mirror, the blow dryer fixture actually fell out of the wall! The hot water temperature also fluctuated drastically—from lukewarm to scalding in seconds. On top of that, my room key deactivated daily, requiring frequent trips to the front desk. Service: The service was inconsistent. In the restaurants, there were only two servers handling the entire dining area, so drinks often went unfilled—we ended up getting our own several times. The timeshare staff were also very aggressive, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the resort. Spa: Excellent. The one bright spot of my stay. We booked massages, and they were fantastic—professional, relaxing, and worth every penny.

Service was great, very clean, and safe! We upgraded our room once we got there and the rooms with a view were nicer inside the room as well as with a better view. The rooms without an ocean view overlook the top of a map and it's an eyesore. Those rooms are also a little dated. Upgrading was definitely worth it! The second room was beautiful! The buffet was excellent, and the service and staff were amazing. Not all the shows were entertaining, sometimes they were just karaoke night. The live music was the same band every night, so it got a little tiring. The beach was great, clean, no seaweed, and a lifeguard on duty. The loungers under the palm trees were lovely to relax in. The sun umbrellas do not protect from all UV light. We learned that the hard way. The people were so nice and friendly! Overall we had a great stay and we will be back in the future!

Todo muy bien, personal amable, habitacion muy bien. Instalaciones bien. Todo lo que se ocupa lo tienen. Es un buen hotel que no es tan caro y te ofrece todo. Con increible vista a la playa. Solo creo que si le pusieran poco mas calidad y variedad a los alimentos seria mucho mas positiva la experiencia. Con esto no quiero decir sean los alimentos de mala calidad. Solo que si se siente de presupuesto bajo. Ejemplo. Los postres en los 5 dias fueron los mismos y no presizamente los mas ricos. Pero esto lo solucionabas con un riquisimo cafe que bien te servia como otra opcion al no convenser los postres. Recomendaria ampliamente este hotel y la verdad es que si volveria.

Very disappointed with my stay. The service was poor, and the food quality was terrible. The staff were not helpful and barely spoke any English, which made communication very difficult. The pool area was dirty and not well maintained. There were dead bugs in the pool. Definitely not worth the money — I would not recommend this hotel.

Las instalaciones no son de lo mejor, lo entiendo por la categoría del hotel, pero el servicio deja mucho que desear, no sonríen y no tienen calidez. El sabor de los alimentos ni se diga 0/10 somos cancunenses y por venir 1 noche nuestra única opción era el bufet, donde había cochinita pibil y tortillas tiesas de cenar. Venimos a celebrar nuestro aniversario y la verdad no la pasamos nada bien. No lo recomendaríamos ni volveríamos. Lo único bueno fue el free upgrade que recibimos. En cuanto llegue al hotel me abordo una señora para ofrecerme una plática yo acepte por cortesía sin saber que era para ofrecer tiempo compartido y además de que eso resulta molesto no fue lo peor, al momento de la plática un señor llamado Alejandro nos estuvo tratando terrible por no aceptar comprar esa membresía y desde que estábamos en la oficina ellos mismos hablaban pestes de los clientes, y aclarando que es estafa todo esto e inmediatamente mi esposo y yo nos fuimos directo al aeropuerto y no pensamos volver al hotel 0/10 en todos los aspectos

The room was clean and staff were very nice. The food quality sucked. Juices were watered down, the food choices were limited and to make it all worse, the was a large group of students (hundreds of students) holding a convention and that made everything a waiting game for anything. Long lines to get a drink or whatever. If I would have known, I probably would have changed the dates. No communication from the hotel.
