TIP 1 - Grab a free Taiwan Tourist Map from the airport info counter. It has the entire metro system
CATCHING TRAIN - AIRPORT to TAIPEI MAIN
If catching train from airport to Taipei Main, make sure you exit via Beimen Station (Tacheng St/Zhengzhou Rd) as the hotel is only a 5 minute stroll from there. Look for the Beimen Station / Taoyuan Airport MRT signs.
That exit is far more convenient, less crowded and faster than if you exit via Main Station itself, which will take you to the busy main road and you'll be walking twice as long over footpaths, with pedestrians and waiting for traffic lights to change.
Beimen station (on the Green line) is also great for getting around as it has 2 junctions with the red line.
CHIFENG STREET (ZHONGSHAN STATION)
From Beimen the metro heading north takes you to Zhongshan station (Chifeng Street and Lane 23 Nanjing W Rd).
Zhongshan station is a junction with the red line.
YONGKANG / DONGMEN / TAIPEI 101
From Beimen the metro heading south takes you to CK-S station (Chiang Kai-Sek Memorial Hall) which is another junction with the red line, and you just change trains there to go to Dongmen (Yongkang St, and all the various little lanes with boutiques and eateries), and 4 stops further, and you're at Taipei 101.
