"We had a wonderful stay. Piece and quiet area. Lots to visit and see. Wine/beer tasting nearby. Hotel is newly established. Contemporary style, comfortable beds. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was delicious. There is a bakery at the premises, and it's possible to bake your own bread there. Personnel is friendly and welcoming. "Torel Quinta da Vacaria was the most beautiful and best stay in Douro Valley. The hotel was an architectural marvel, with its state of the art spa to the most spectacular views of the river. But the best part was its amazing staff and impecable service. This had been one of the best hotels we have stayed in the world and we HIGHLY recommend it."

"We enjoyed this hotel. We had a lovely room with a terrace overlooking the Douro River. Dinner in the luxury dining room was excellent but expensive. Bar food was good and reasonably priced. The pool was nice. We enjoyed the town with winery visits and boat trips. The only really odd thing was that the bottom of the shower door does not come to the floor and water flooded the bathroom floor. This happened to our friends also, so it was not just our room. You learn to stand in one small spot to wash. Odd, I would say. "

From recommendations on what to do, traditional Portuguese dinners being served; cooked by the family and when my wife and I couldn’t get a taxi in the morning they drove us to the train station. "Beautiful property in the beautiful Douro Valley with a nice pool. There is no winery on site, but it is in the middle of beautiful vineyards. You can go down the road to Pinhao or to St. Eufemia Winery for a tour. Breakfast was great and the staff was very accomodating. Great price for a beautiful stay. The property would benefit from some more outdoor leisure areas to sit peacefully and enjoy the view other than the balcony of your room or the pool/deck. Lenore at the desk was very nice and very helpful."
