Amble along the lakeside and paddle a row boat across the water in these historic grounds that date back to the 17th century.

Parc de L'Orangerie is the ideal family spot, with its mini-zoo, playgrounds, green open spaces and large lake. This charming park spreads across 64 acres (26 hectares) of scenic grounds surrounded by architectural treasures from the European Union. Test the capabilities of your camera as you attempt to capture the range of bright colors in the floral arrangements dotted around the park.

Landscape architect Le Nôtre designed the park in the late 1600s. The grounds were later renovated and extended in preparation for an exhibition that was held there in 1895. The park’s name derives from the orange trees that populated it centuries ago.

Stroll through the vast park to encounter some of its delightful features. Bring your kids to the mini-zoo to look at the cute animals. Let them get up-close to the goats and storks that roam around the enclosures. Rent a boat to take out on the lake and relax in the serene environs.

Explore the various fountains and statues that add an elegant feel to the grounds. The park’s Pavillon Joséphine hosts private events, weddings and exhibitions year-round.

Take a break from nature at L’Orangerie Garden, a fun complex with a restaurant. Play a round at the bowling alley and enjoy a game of pool or snooker in the billiard room. Sip a hot beverage on the terrace or drink a beer in the bar. The complex also has a shop that sells sports equipment.

Parc de L'Orangerie lies in the district from which it takes its name. The park and its zoo are free to enter. Find it in the heart of the European Quarter in the northwest of the city, beside many of Strasbourg’s highlights, including the Palace of Europe. To reach the park, ride a tram to the Droits de l’Homme stop.
