"We just had a wonderful stay at Sandyport Beach Resort. The main beach and the lagoon are gorgeous. We swam in the pool each day and waded/swam in the sea as well. It was wonderful and never felt crowded. There were always chairs available at the beach and around the pool, with plenty of options for shade or sun. It is a short walk (15mins) to the grocery store, and only 5 mins to a number of great restaurants and a sporting goods store if you've forgotten anything.
Some of the rooms at the resort have been renovated and others have not, as you can see in the pics. We had an older room and it was a bit 'tired' but didn't take away from our enjoyment at all. The beds were comfortable, the a/c was quiet, and everything else worked as it should. We did have a noisy neighbour in the adjoining room, but I don't know how the resort could improve on that.
The staff were all very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The whole Sandyport neighbourhood has a cheery relaxed vibe. Restaurants are expensive but with everything being imported it is not surprising. We had our usual cereal breakfast, but ate out for lunch and dinner. Our favourite restaurants were Twisted Lime for dinners, the Blue Sail Bar & Grill for lunch with a view of the beach, and the News Cafe for lunch while watching the sea turtles and nurse sharks on the deck across the street. Bob Vivants is also a must visit for a cappuccino and pastry.
We would not hesitate to stay here again."
"Nice property, however it’s terrible value for money. On top of very high room rate, you pay a daily resort fee of $83.60 and daily service charge of $21.78 for basically cleaning your hotel room - never seen a hotel that charges for regular room cleaning. Front desk staff is far from customer centric, but we have seen some great customer service in restaurants, particularly the Madeline Cafe.
It’s a beautiful property, but one that is designed to take maximum financial advantage if you, really expensive food and drink prices, built in service charges for everything and in asking for TIP on top. A kids smoothie with tax, service charge and a small tip comes to $15! "
"Totally regret booking SLS. As Europeans we had no idea about Spring break or the behaviour of the unruly American teenagers that were drunk and and falling around the hallways all night keeping everyone awake. The first room we had was awful, tiny bathroom (with see thru toilet door!) no wardrobe and generally in poor condition. After complaining we were moved to a better room with closet space and proper bathroom (still transparent toilet door). If you want to use a sun lounger with a cushion it’s an extra £100 a day each. If you want to use the nicer more adult friendly beach club area it’s an additional £175 a day but you have no chance as it’s booked three months in advance. Dont forget to budget for an additional £100 day resort taxes. We normally stay at The Cove (fully booked) and ended up here. Never ever again The loungers are so closely packed on the beach there is not an inch of space between them. Not enough breakfast options. Overall expensively poor. "
Courtyard by Marriott Nassau Downtown/Junkanoo Beach
8/10 Good
"Building is outdated but the lobby, room itself, and gym were nice. We got to our room and it smelled like cigarettes so we decided called the front desk and had them change it. The receptionist said she was going to check on the next room to make sure it doesn’t smell and she was going to come find us. After an hour of waiting we finally went up to the front and asked if it’s ready to find out the receptionist was just hiding in the back. We get our key and go to the room to find out they gave us the same key to the original room! Finally after calling the desk AGAIN they came up and gave us a new key to the room next door and it was fine. Shower was kind of gross there was mold or algae on the drain stopper. Would not come back again but for the price it’s reasonable."
