Manilva is a charming white village in the province of Malaga that stretches across hills divided by a number of streams. Behind the village, looking towards the sea, stands the impressive geological mass Canuto de la Utrera.

From there, the limestone path crosses vertical rock walls known as “canutos” and leads to the spa baths Los Baños de la Hedionda and the small chapel of San Adolfo.

The municipality stretches down to the sea, where you’ll find the emblematic castillo de la Duquesa, a castle built in 1767 on top of a Roman villa. This old fortification, also known as the fortress of the Sabinillas, formed part of the coastal defence and had four canons.
Currently the fortress is home to the village’s archaeological museum, where various elements from the nearby Roman archaeological site are on display: ceramics, amphorae, personal items, pottery, etc. The excavation site also contains the villa, a necropolis, thermal baths and an area for salting fish, all from the first century AD.
