This tiny campsite is at the end of a gravel road just past the Mt John observatory. Right on a little lake between Lake Tekapu and Lake Alexandra. If you do not want to fork over the $140 for an observatory tour, camp here for amazing views of the Southern Sky. Note: no running water and BYOTP ( bring your own toilet paper)
While this stunning lake deserves more time to explore, if you're hurrying through, the bus between Queenstown and Christchurch stops here for about half an hour, giving you plenty of time to wander down to the shore and snap some pics. A brief stop, but an unforgettable one.
