You can take the train from the hotel to MBK center, it's about 4 stops away. There is a bridge from the hotel that leads directly to the train station.

The skytrain is the best option. Go to the National Stadium exit, get off, punch out, walk back the way you came, and exit straight into the Tokyu Department store. Take the escalator up to any floor and go directly into the MBK Maze. Go to a information booth and get a map. 6th floor is great Thai, Indian, Japanese, etc food that you have to buy tickets to use with each vendor. It is simpler to buy a 3 or 5 hundred baht Rabbit debit card in the skytrain booth, which you can use for train rides as well as paying for food in the ticket section. It you get frazzled, take a break, go to the top floor and watch a movie in a plush lounge chair with food and drinks available while you watch the latest and greatest in style and comfort.

This was the best if you like to haggle. I loved it and came home with great bargains.
