Kuehlungsborn is a charming Seebad (seaside resort) on Germany’s Baltic Coast. Dating back to the 1860s, Kuehlungsborn was one of the first seaside resorts established in Germany and is now Mecklenburg’s largest spa town. Go for a wander around the town center and admire the traditional resort-style 19th-century architecture. Listen for the sound of the Bäderbahn Molli, an old-fashioned steam-operated railway that connects Kuehlungsborn’s attractions. Climb aboard and head for the Marina Kuehlungsborn. Here, you can check out the yachts in the moorings as you explore the timber boardwalk. You’ll find a strip of cafés, restaurants and shops facing the marina. South of Kuehlungsborn, you can see views of the Kuehlung, a forested ridge after which the town is named.
