The Keeper of the Plains is a 44-foot tall steel sculpture standing at the point where the Big and Little Arkansas rivers join together in downtown Wichita. This land between the two rivers is sacred ground to the Native American people and is also home to the Mid-America All-Indian Center. The Indian Warrior sculpture was created by Wichitan and Native American artist Blackbear Bosin (1921-1980).
Come in time for the sunsets to enjoy the view along the eastern shore of the Arkansas River.

Right on the River downtown.
Standing 44 feet atop a large Boulder at the confluence of the Arkansas and Little Arkansas Rivers is the Keeper of the Plains. Designed in 1974 by Comanche-Kiowa artist Blackbear Bosin, the sculpture has since become a symbol of the city of Wichita. At night large fire pits located around the keeper are lit and illuminates the warrior in a fiery blaze.
I've seen several pictures of the Keeper if the Plains but I wanted to add my own. It just so happen that our visit coincided with a fire on the west side of the city. He must be distracted!
