Experience the dual pleasures of art and coffee at this scenic mountainside village where you can sample aromatic Kona coffee and visit artisanal art galleries.

The charming village of Hōlualoa is a coffee-drinker’s paradise, nestled into the hills of the Kona region on Hawai’i’s Big Island. Explore the village’s Old Hawai’i-style streets, filled with historic architecture and galleries featuring local artisanal craft and artworks. Indulge in pure Kona coffee, a delicious and aromatic variety unique to the island’s western region.

Stroll through the village’s streets to find an artist’s enclave of galleries and studios. See paintings and sculptures by the region’s artists and admire the local villagers’ handcrafted woodwork. See beautiful ceramics and lauhala items, woven using traditional Hawai’ian techniques.

Explore the Ukulele Gallery to find a charming workshop and store dedicated to the island’s most iconic instrument. This gallery features a vast range of fine ukuleles, handcrafted by local artisans. Try your hand at strumming a tune or two.

Enjoy a refreshing break at one of the village’s cafés serving local Kona coffee. This rich and flavorsome variety of Hawai’ian coffee is exclusive to the volcanic mountainside coffee farms on Hualalai and Mauna Loa. Visit one of the region’s farms offering tours to the public. Learn about the unique climate and soil conditions that define Kona coffee and see coffee orchards, harvesting techniques and the bean-processing mill. Sample a fresh brew of 100% pure Kona coffee and discover why this variety is so highly valued around the world.

Visit Hōlualoa in November to experience the Hōlualoa Coffee and Art Stroll, an annual event that showcases the village’s arts scene and  coffee blends. Taste some of the region’s finest brews and meet local artists as you browse their wares.

Hōlualoa is located in the slopes above Kailua-Kona and Keauhou in the Kona region of Hawai’i’s western coast. It is under 10-minute’s drive from Kailua-Kona. Hōlualoa is a high-elevation village and has a lot of rainfall and humidity. Once you’ve experienced the aromatic Kona bean, however, any excuse will have you seeking shelter in a Hōlualoa café.
