"Hotel was in a great location, within walking distance of everything we wanted to do. There was always someone near the front entry to help, answer questions, get a cab, etc. My 3 rating has to do with our Expedia VIP status. I booked this hotel for that reason. On check-in, we weren’t acknowledged as VIP, no upgrades, no higher floor for view, no free breakfast , etc. I had to ask about it at checkout and was told we had an $18 food credit. When it cost us over $1200 to stay for 4 nights, I would expect more than an $18 credit. We wouldn’t consider this a VIP hotel, as all other VIP hotels we have booked in the past have gone above and beyond."

"I generally stay at Wyndham hotels, a good value for the price, and have always had a very good experience. I had just come from a Drury hotel near the St. Louis airport because it was convenient for a one-night visit. And it was excellent. So coming to the KC Wingate was a bit of a letdown. It's not bad, but a few things stand out. I arrived to a man smoking next to the front door, although a sign says "no smoking within 50 feet" of the door. Bad start. Then the setup is odd--you walk right into a "wall" that is the staircase to the second floor, and have to go around it to the desk. The desk staff was okay, though not especially upbeat. My last day a young woman--Amanda, maybe--was much better. The main floor layout is interesting. Huge open area, with pool at one end and breakfast area/large bar at the other. Breakfast was decent, not exceptional. NO one ever used the bar, though I did watch a cricket match with some of the young guys who work at the hotel. One thing I look for at a hotel is the fitness area. In this one my favorite machine--the stationary bike--was broken. The room itself was fine. All the inside rooms surround the main floor and look down on it, a bit like many of the Hyatt hotels. There places to eat within a short walk, fast food but quick and edible. It is close to the 395 freeway, and was only about 15 minutes to KCI. It is walkable to World of Fun amusement park, which was not open yet. Not a bad experience, just...different. "

"Amazing place to stay!! We were passing through and needed a hotel for the night it was right off I35 so very convenient for travel. Staff were very friendly. Nearest restaurant/shopping/fun was about 5 mins away so not bad at all! The place was clean and everyone felt safe. One downside is the shower water got warm but not hot. Other than that we had a great experience! Would stay again! "

"Hotel room had some darkness to it. The entire hotel smelled like cigarettes thankfully, the hotel room did not smell like cigarettes. I could tell it was a sketchy place as soon as I showed up and if my booking did not say no refunds, I would have took my money back and spent 40 more dollars on a better hotel. Vending machine machines did not work and the staff recommended. I go buy drinks from across the street. "
