"The cottage was absolutely fine for our stay and I wouldn’t say not to stay there. However I would have liked to have been aware how run down and in need of some decor and loving care it is. It’s in a great position in a lovely village and in good distance to lots of things. It just looks like it’s not been updated for years and even could do with a few more bits of glassware and crockery. Bits of the kitchen are falling apart and ended up with a cupboard collapsing on me and a fire extinguisher on my finger on first arrival. The water doesn’t seem to get very hot so our bath was lukewarm unless we used the kettle. And the bed mattress was very worn out and old and squishy. Also lighting in cottage is sparse and not much light from windows so very dark inside. It was nothing that ruined our stay however for the price I think it needs a little money spent on it and some care given to it."

"Lovely hotel in good location. Room spacious and very clean with nice view. Staff pleasant and helpful. Booked in for dinner at 7:30. Didn’t order a starter, main courses took 1 hr to come and then 2 out of 3 sent back as they were lukewarm. No hot water for a shower in the evening or in the morning as we were told the boiler can’t cope with everyone wanting a shower at the same time."

"Loved this place. The setting is beautiful as was our room. A real mixture of old and new that worked perfectly. The staff were really friendly and attentive and we truly felt welcome. We opted for the pie for dinner and I can honestly say, it was the best pie I have ever eaten. The pastry was amazing and it was filled to the max with the ham and leek. My only criticism is that I didn’t really rate the mattress, the bed was too hard for me. Additionally, a blind on the Velux window would be useful as I woke very early with it being so light. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay and can’t wait to return."

"The George in Hathersage is ideally located to explore the Peak District National Park. We had a standard room which wasn't overly large but perfectly adequate, including a large bed. The bathroom had up-to-date sanitaryware, including a fullsize bath with shower over. From the bathroom there were a few steps up to the bedroom. Central heating, tea/coffee facilities and modern furnishings. Staff were lovely to deal with whether in Reception, or the bar, or in the restaurant where breakfast was served. Full dinner menu was also available every evening and a rather quaint service of serving pizza cooked to order all day. Car park was quite spacious, including two EV charging points, and had a barrier to control entry and exit. No hesitation in recommending The George for your stay in the Peak District. "

"Our stay was a journey down memory lane for me. The hotel was still lovely and popular, the room was clean and albeit small as a twin, it was in keeping with such a historic building and the lady on the bar, who checked us in couldn’t be more welcoming. The kitchen even catered amazingly for a veggie and a vegan option breakfast. The hotel is centrally located for the beautiful village of Eyam’s history trail, tea rooms and local walks with good parking facilities. "
