The hotel was Clean and the breakfast buffet was awesome! The room was very basic and did not include an iron, blow dryer, microwave or refrigerator. The Ac worked great. It says parking available but it's actually a garage 2 blocks away but they do validate the parking pass.
It was a beautiful property. The staff was incredibly helpful and attentive. We even met the owner and he was a lovely person. He should us some of the ongoing renovations and taught us a little history of the hotel. He was such a sweet person. The air conditioning was a plus and the roof top bar had a magnificent view. We stayed in a two bedroom suite which was perfect for our family of five. The breakfast at the on property restaurant was amazing. My favorite was the cafe de olla, chicharrones, fresh papaya and agua de tuna. The entire family loved every moment spent there.
Staff was great! Room was clean every day with clean towels daily.

Our stay was amazing in this historic hotel. The staff was super friendly and made us feel welcomed and at home. The amenities and the cleanliness was excellent as well. I will definitely be returning soon.
I love staying at the older historical hotels in GDL. Hotel Francés just needs some extra touches. Like paint in the rooms and some dusting of the sofas in the reception area. Overall the place is okay. I wouldn’t stay there again just because there’s other hotel with similar prices and better quality. If you are looking for something reasonable priced and just need somewhere to sleep it’s good.
Staff was great and the location excellent but the hotel could use some TLC which looked like it was getting and new mattresses would be great. But I definitely would stay again.

Room was good, its an old building so dont expect perfection, staff is very friendly, this trip was tough because of all the construction around, but we made the best of it. Will be back next year.
I've been staying at Hotel Francis on and off since 1999. For many years, I've recommended it to others because of its history, charm, and outstanding location.
Unfortunately, I no longer feel I can do that.
The rooms were clean, and the showers were excellent. Those things matter. But I don't believe they outweigh the rest of my experience.
Our check-in was long and unnecessarily laborious. Worse, the desk agent seemed indifferent to how long the process was taking. When we were finally checked in, we weren't permitted to walk up the single flight of stairs to our rooms. Instead, we had to wait for the bellman to escort us.
That included a lengthy explanation of the history of the hotel and its elevator, when all we wanted to do was get to our rooms, take a shower, and relax. To make matters worse, the elevator stopped working while we were waiting. I asked permission at the front desk to simply walk to our rooms and the staff simply looked away and ignored me.
Again, the rooms themselves were generally very nice, and my group liked them. But first impressions matter, and ours was not a good one. Take a look at the furniture in the lobby. It isn't just dated—it is stained and visibly worn from decades of use. Even the TV is wrapped in plastic.
If Hotel Francis hopes to live up to the reputation that kept many of us coming back for decades, it needs to invest not only in its lobby and reception area but also in the friendliness and professionalism of it's staff.

Staff were very nice and provided great service.
Room space was very small specially the bathroom and shower. Towels were very thin. Elevator was out of service multiple times.
Very friendly staff, like that they had entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Rooms need updating. Would of rather had a shower than a tub.

The hotel is beautiful and clean. What you’d expect for a historical building. However, it was listed as having an elevator. When we arrived we were told that the elevator has not been working for almost 3 weeks since they are waiting for a part that is coming in from Italy. I had my 83 year old mother and handicapped brother going up and down the stairs for two days. Not sure if this is Expedias fault for not updating the listing or the hotel’s.
We honestly opted to move to another hotel without complaining. There is the process of remodeling and I hope once it’s completed there will no longer be issues with the AC. This is not a reflection of the staff as they tried to make us feel comfortable
